They are well taken care of. Hi , I just wanted to add on to what Alice and others have said. I never went to MDA camp, but I went to one of Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang camps as a teen and it was one of the best experiences of my life. There was an unbelievable amount of acceptance there and it gave me a sense of self-confidence and unconditional support. I really think that the camp experience as a late teenager really gave me the confidence to move into adulthood with an illness. For those of you who are young adults or who have young adults, I want to add on to this that last year I got to go to Canyon Ranch in Arizona. There are two sessions this year for 18-24 (and sometimes slightly older or younger) young adults with various chronic illnesses. I know there are several young adults going with mito and other metabolic conditions this year. Canyon Ranch is a world renowned health resort and a lot of famous people go there b/c it is so incredible. They have yoga, tai chi, swimming, exercise ball, relaxation, meditation, and other classes to really help people to learn how to balance their lives. Each young adult will get a free manicure or pedicure and massage. The best part about the weeks that we are invited to come is that we are with 20 other young adults who all have various illnesses. Every night there is time to just sit and chat in a formalized discussion about everything we face as young people dealing with chronic illnesses. We are housed in two very nice houses with air conditioning and have 2-4 counselors per house. Nursing staff is available for help with meds. I went last year and I had an incredible time. It was seriously one of the best weeks ever. a and Adrienne went last year, as well. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and is entirely paid for through this foundation. Airfare is free, as well. I believe the weeks for 2004 are June 27-July 4 and Aug. 8-15th. If you'd like anymore info, feel free to e-mail me back privately about it or call Patty at Dream Street at 1-800-55-DREAM. It seems early to call about the summer, but they fill up quickly!! Also, you can check it out at www.dreamstreetfoundation.org Click on the " A " on the left side that says Canyon Ranch.
