I am so sorry that happened . It might be a blessing in disguise

though. Did they let you go because you couldn't do the job for physical

reasons or to do with your health? Make sure you apply right away as it

takes 6 months to get on. Hold on and try to keep your courage up, I know

it is tough. Will you be able to make it financially until s,s, kicks in?

Let us know how you are doing. This kind of thing can be so traumatic.

Smiles to you,

But I need some support. I was terminated from my job this week and I am not

sure where to go from here. I don't think I can physically go back to work

so I guess I will have to apply for disability through the Social Security

Administration.

,

I was terminated 1 1/2 years ago. Somehow still hanging in there--life has

changed. First of all, apply for unemployment also. In WI here it pays for

about 6 months. It takes a little while to get the first check and you have

to call in or go online every week here and check in. It does not pay

much--I am getting $244/wk and I had had a $11.00/hr job getting $442.40 per

week. I know they are also talking about extending benefits again but it

has not happened. This would be after your six months is up.

Also, apply to temp agencies for part time work. I am registered with every

temp agency in town. I am currently out of work again but have called all

the temp agencies again.

Maybe you could work part time to extend the unemployment. I was able to

stretch mine to 11 months by working part time and only taking partial

payments. Then a new benefit year kicked in and because I had worked the

required number of hours I am getting it again. I was working until last

week but now I have to tap into it.

Then, most important--Take time for yourself and relax. There are a lot of

people who are out of work and as I learned, it is not your fault.

Companies just don't have the money to pay employees.

Thanks, Jen so much for your kind words. I need the support of people who

understand.

The reason they gave for terminating me was that my job position had been

eliminated, so I will never know if my disability had any bearing on their

decision. I think I can make it financially until the SS kicks in. I just hope I

can make my family understand that I don't think I can go back to work

physically. And you are right I was taught to believe that everything happens

for a reason. Maybe God is trying to tell me it is time to stop and take care of

my earthly body. I'll keep you posted.

I'm sorry about your job situation. I was terminated from a job last

year because of my disability (which is blatantly illegal), and I

spent three months searching and interviewing before I took my

current job. It's not only difficult to deal with financially, but I

was emotionally devastated and angry as hell. I filed a complaint

with the US Dept of Labor, but did not take legal action against my

former employer, since I'm still in the same industry. I didn't want

to damage my reputation in any way.

I briefly considered forgetting the whole idea and applying for

disability, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I worked very

hard to get where I am, and not working felt like I was giving up.

I'm not doing myself any favors by pushing to work the hours that I

do, but it keeps me sane and helps me to feel more " normal " .

I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do next.

would they not make provisions to help you do your job? What kind a work did you

do?

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job. I will be thinking of you as you

travel the road to making decisions and getting things worked out.
