Guest guest Posted March 22, 2004 Report Share Posted March 22, 2004 My husband is the one with mito - and he has otosclerosis - he was actually diagnosed with this several years before he got sick - it was not bad enough to require hearing aides - but they said that could happen eventually (he is 28 now - he was perhaps 22 then) The ammount of trouble it gives him varies - he mainly has chronic ear pain and occassional hearing is distorted - like a tunnel or mechanical sound. They may have mis-diagnosed as his hearing loss may be due to Mito rather than otosclerosis. This is not saying that he could not have both, and I don't think all the cards are in on Mito by a long shot. Otosclerosis is caused by boney growth in the cochlea. There is some question as to whether Mito affects bone. CI's do work even with otosclerosis if the need ever arises.
