After reading a few of these posts regarding animals

and recovery I have finally decided to put in my two

cents. I am a professional pet trainer and work for a

lkarge (pet) company developing programs to train both

people to work with pets and the best ways to train

our pets based on animalk behavior theories. I can

tell you that this statement:

Cats --and dogs--(unlike human toddlers!!!!) seem to

> instinctively comprehend

> illness and human frailty--and they will regulate

> their behavior accordingly.

is remarkable but mostly true. Dogs (my speciality)

will usually instinctively sense a problem. And react

to the situation. There have been many studies of the

effect animals have on the ill. One study showed that

people with high blood presure can lower their blood

pressure by petting a dog.

As for yor cat, the water pistol may work but it

requires timing. If you are moving slowly and try to

spray your cat and the spray doesn't hit at the exact

moment the cat makes his moves the correction(water

spary) will hit the cat at the wrong time and your cat

willnot understand that you are spraying him so he

doesn't jump on you. He may think the spary is for

something totally unrelated.

Sorry this is so long, feel free to email me with any

pet behavior questions and I'll help you out as much

as possible or be able to steer you in a direction.
