Guest guest
Oh, I'm just a lab rat...a tiny mote in the corporate scheme. But I' ve seen enough in my years there (14!) to know that bad management is endemic - all the way up to National. Which is why I'm going back to school so I can LEAVE. Guest guest
I heard this on the radio today! I also heard that Bill Gates donated a fair amount of money, as did some others. They were going through a list of who donated - and, who didn't donate! it was interesting! one they said didn't donate, were any of the newspapers - which, after, apparently, a non-factual editorial in - maybe the new york times? someone suggested that they should make a donation! One thing they said, it was something like less than 24 hours, and the American people had donated a great some of money! OH! another I remember - Starbucks Coffee - they're going to have some sort of deal where for each pound of coffee purchased, I think they said, $2.00 would be contributed. Seems to me there was another big company that was doing something similar to that. And I saw a lady on TV from UNICEF. I've had a problem with the red cross though for a good while! They only want money - they never want goods - and a few years back, I read that only a small percentage of the money donated actually goes to the cause, because the majority goes to the red tape and paid positions within their organization. I'd like to find a way to get it more directly to the people who need it. There was someone else on Television from one of the countries. He mentioned some other ways to donate, but it went in one ear and out the other - and I couldn't remember who he said he was getting supplies from. He knows who needs rice, and who doesn't. I'd donate to somewhere who would give the money without the bureaucratic mumbo jumbo!! Guest guest
United Way was a problem ONLY on the National Level. Only one cent of each dollar that you give locally goes to the National organization. It was a story that was done that media didn't tell the full story about. And that was close to 10 years ago. Guest guest
I was formerly involved with and privvy to some local United Way groups, in the past, and it's going to depend a whole lot on who is put in charge of these things on a local level. I do NOT approve of the local goings-on of who is put in charge of these things. In small communities, these are highly " politicized " jobs, and many take these jobs as some sort of forward into other things, if you get my meaning. They may not be the truly " heart felt " people to do these jobs, plus some just generally mismanage, are grafty, and consider it to be some sort of power trip. Some just slay they care, but don't really care about the plight of people in need. I have seen people receive these services who don't really need this and are just " working the system " , then others don't receive these services who really need them. This is my local take on United Way and some such similar goings-on. I give my funds based on what I know is going on with these entities, and it's not going to go my local United Way. I have given some to certain local churches who I KNOW fairly distribute funds to families who really need help, but, of course, they don't get the kind of funding that United Way services do. United Way services here, locally, gives to who they WANT to, and this is a very sore sbjct with me. You can report these things to who you think will alleviate these things, but it IS a system, with a chain reaction. And the former complaints on the Red Cross are absolutely correct, the other expenses get paid first, and they are numerous, including employees, of course.
