Post Myo ?: vanity & pain meds

My myo is scheduled. I just have a few questions. One is vanity

related. Ninety-five percent of my reason for a myo is to stop the

madness (the intense bleeding). The other is to have a flat stomach

again. Does the stomach go back to being flat after being cut so

invasively?

My second question is I am trying to figure out logistics. I am going

out of state for the surgery. How long is one on pain meds? I may

have to drive myself so I was wondering how long i will need to stay

in a hotel before I can drive home.

Thanks!!

Debbie

Hi Debbie-

You will have swelling for some time after your surgery, do not expect a flat

stomach post-myo. Many women have swelling for 2-3 months or so. I had my myo

on October 2, and my swelling is just now almost gone. Just be patient with it,

it will get better, but it takes time!

About the pain meds, I think I was on them for about 5 days or so after coming

home from the hospital. You may not need them that long, or you could take soem

weaker, over-the-counter drugs instead. The most important thing with the pain

meds is not to drink alcohol when you are taking them. They may also make you

sick to your stomach.

Also, I was advised not to drive for several weeks following my surgery, as are

most women. You don't realize how much you use your stomach muscles while

driving, braking, turning, etc. It will hurt. There's also a risk to your

incision. I would not try to do this on my own without consulting with your

doctor.

Good luck and BE CAREFUL! After surgery, you don't want to risk any further

complications!

Hi Debbie,

I had an adom myo on the 7th of this month. I was in the hospital for 2 nights

and was only spotting lightly when I left. I was on a morphine drip in the

hospital so I wasn't feeling any pain. The doc prescribed vicuprofin upon my

release. I could take 1 or 2 every 4 hours. The first two days home I took one

every 4 hours. For the first 4 days I would say the only time I felt pain was

when I was trying to get out of bed or up from the couch too quickly or without

using my arm and leg muscles. I had some scary bleeding start 2 days after I was

home where I was soaking pads every 4 hours or so. I thought it might have been

my period. I called my doctor and was going to go in the next day but the

bleeding stopped after 3 days. It's been 9 days since my operation I have been

completely off of pain pills for 3 days and am not bleeding at all. Im still

sleeping more than normal but I have been walking on the beach every day for the

last 3 days, doing dishes, bending over, can get up and down very easily. I feel

like I have sore muscles in my abdomen is all now. I was a little bloated

looking in my stomach before the myo. In the hospital I swelled up a lot but now

my abdomen is getting flat again. Every day it looks a little flatter so Im

happy about that. I have read though that it can take a month or longer for all

the swelling to go down.

Hope that helps a bit!

Good luck to you!

Thank you!

Yeah, I don't expect a flat stomach immediately. Currently, it is the

size of a 14 week pregnancy and no amount of exercise is changing

that. I just wondered if surgery would make a difference eventually

or will I forever have a poochy stomach. I know part of it is age. I

just am not sure what my stomach muscles will come back to after

being cut open.

Yeah, I will have to figure out the surgery thing. I don't really

know anyone on this side of the US.
