fertility foods?

Hello ladies,

Here's a funny question, a bit off topic of fibroids, but I thought I'd put

it out there to see if any of you have heard the same thing.

Is it true that the Chinese recommend eating raisins and walnuts to boost

fertility?

I have heard this several times from the internet sites I have visited about

naturopathic fertility therapies as well as from women who were told this

by their own naturopaths. I suppose the ingredients of these foods aids in

triggering ovulation, but I am only guessing.

Have any of you seen a naturopath or an an accupuncturist while you were

pregnant? I am not pregnant, but soon will be trying for a baby. Every

little bit of help with boosting my fertility is welcome. I love raisins and

can force down a walnut or two now and then, has it worked for any of you?

Anyone have other foods that are suggested to be fertility rich?

Your words of experience are very much appreciated.

:)Hugs,

Sonja

Hi Sonya,

I have been ttc for some time now, since my miscarriage, and have

been frequenting ttc boards, fertility/infertility related sites and

have never come accross this combination. There are many foods and

herbs that are recommended. Top of the list is anything that is high

in folic acid (spinach, broccoli etc.) This is particulary good for

the contibution that your " sperm donor " is making to the enterprise

and is thought to increase sperm motility and volume! Folic acid is

very important to the health of the fetus and it is recommended that

you start taking prenatal vitamins (high in fa) 4 months prior to

ttc. In terms of herbs that are thought to increase fertility, one

thing that you might try, and I have found it great to reduce fibroid

discomfort, is wheatgrass. Most women take it by tablet, but some do

get the liquid form from healthfood stores (supposed to taste yuck).

It does a great job of cleaning out your intestines (helps for

fibroid relief), and on the fertility front, it reduces FSH levels

which are a good thing in the baby making game. Another herb combo

that is used is Vitex. This is also thought to have the ability to

reduce fibroid size over a long period of use, however I did not like

the way my body reacted to it. There is a product called " fertility

blend " which is currently under study at stanford which has had some

success. You might want to look into this. Here is the site

http://www.fertilityblend.com/index.htm

Here is a really good site with some fertility tips

http://www.fertilityplus.org/toc.html

I wish you the very best on your ttc path!!

best,

suz

Oh, there are things to stay away from. Ibuprofin is a biggie. Also

you may want to check out food list to stay away from when pg,

because you really don't want to take them much at all when you are

ttc- caffeine, alcohol, uncooked fish, some types of fish, etc.

Hi Sonya,

My Dr prescribed Folic Acid to me for when im ready to TTC..he claims this is a

GREAT fertility inducer..Ask your Dr. for a Folic Acid prescription, or you can

buy it over the counter in any Shoppers Drug Mart or Health Food Store.

Good Luck!!
