Guest guest
Hi, I'm sort of new. I've been reading the posts since my insurance co. approved the surgery though, and it's been very enlightening, if not a bit scary every now and then. I find out this Wed when my surgery will be, and I'm sincerely hoping for Dec over my Christmas break, otherwise I'll have to wait until Summer, and I really don't think I have the patience. But the reason for posting is that my doctors have mentioned the possibility of performing a rhinoplasty at the same time they do the upper and lower alignment. I've always wanted a nose job, it has an unattractive " ski bump " on it. And my mom and my doctors have said that it would be convenient to do it now b/c I'd already be recieving medical care through insurance, plus I'd experience all the drugs and anesthesia one time. But the idea of them changing just one more thing terrifies b/c I'm afraid that I'll look drastically different, or that the added surgery time and stress could be detrimental. (I guess the detrimental effects should rank worse than the appearance, but I'm 20 and obviously still a bit vain, so bare with me...) So I was just wondering if anyone has had rhinoplasty at the same time as jaw surgery, or if anyone who has had surgery has an opinion on what I should do... or even if you haven't had surgery... I'm open to suggestions! Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi , I had upper/lower/genio on 10/3 and I had wanted to get rhinoplasty done at the same time. But both my ortho and OS said no because upper jaw surgery changes appearance and swelling of the nasal passages and even a " good " nose job may end up looking crooked in the months that follow due to swelling. I took their advice and did not have it done. I do, however, think I will still have the rhinoplasty, but not for another year until I am totally healed from this surgery. At which time the rhinoplasty will seem like nothing in comparison, I would bet. Sharon
Guest guest
Hi. I am also considering a nose job with the orthognathic surgery. I have what I like to refer to as an Italian potato nose. I still have to wait for the insurance okay, but it is a serious consideration. Having had 3 c-sections, all I can tell you is that recovery from surgery is 50% medical and 50% mental. If you go in with a positive attitude and almost " will " yourself to a quick recovery, I believe that will do the trick. My advise is: You are young enough to bounce back from the surgery now and if you have family support to go through with it....DO IT!! You may not be in a position later on in life to have the surgery done, so go for it. Life changes quickly and you don't want to be in a position to say, " I could have had this over with years ago. " Surgery is always scary, so going through it as little as possible is a sure bet. And consider this....you aren't going to look so great right after surgery with the swelling and bruising, so might as well look horrific now and absolutely beautiful when you are all healed up. I hope this helps...From a 36 year old mother of 3. Nose job too... Hi, I'm sort of new. Guest guest
- I, also, would not mind having the rhinoplasty done at the same time, however with all that I read about the surgery for upper and lower I would be afraid to not be able to breathe. I think it will be hard enough with having my jaw wired shut or having splints in to breathe through my nose, let alone having my nose stuffed with guaze and not be able to breathe through that either?? Think twice before making the jump to doing both at the same time. Lyn > Hi, I'm sort of new.
