Guest guest
Hello and A Happy New Year to Carla and to All of the LOL! Dear : Shiitake mushrooms, according to your excerpt, would sound like a miraculous panacea, a remedy for everything and any condition that could possibly affect anyone ever! Didn't your Mama ever tell you if something SOUNDED too good to be true, it usually was!? :-) I, too, remember reading about shiitake mushrooms and their possible nutritional/medicinal value particularly in enhancing the immune system and slowing the development of malignant tumors. I'm sure they are many beneficial properties that I may not be aware of. OK-But, can they eliminate uterine fibroid tumors? Call me a cynic...but.... But let's start with those so-called " antifungal properties " you cited in your post . . Objection!!!!!......If it pleases the Court, how can shiitake mushroom possibly be an antifungal? Shiitake are mushrooms and mushroom ARE a type of " funghi " , are they not? So, according to that research,.... shiitake mushrooms must then be a kind of " antifungal funghi? " If true.............sheeeeeez, sounds like those shiitake have a reallllly bad case of self-loathing! (kinda like an anti-Semitic Jew or a homophobic gay person, I suppose!!!!) 'Ya know...whether it's a (unsubstantiated) blurb of fibroidal disappearance on Christiane Northrup's website or a story reported by your friend's friend (testimony/testimonial which would be thrown out in a court of law because it would be considered " hearsay evidence " )----I think we have to agree on one thing: " One anecdotal report does NOT a proven cure make. " Agreed? I'm not saying that a certain treatment isn't valid or efficacious unless it's been proven so by scrupulous studies conducted over many decades by the Mayo Clinic or the Institute of Blah di Blah. Or that Western Medicine has all the answers. Hardly. Still, in the very least we Fibroidians need the very minimum scientific data/parameters to be able to judge the efficacy of any treatment. Like basic who/ what? where? when? how? questions answered. Real measurements of a real diagnosis before and after on those " disappearing fibroids " demonstrable on ultrasound or MRI. I agree with Ann's post in which she stated that: " tales of fibroid reduction and " going away " is the lack of concrete information such as how big were the fibroids ahead of time, what was the normal expansion and constriction during the menstrual cycle, what was the size after they " got better " , what kind of fibroid was it, and what was the hormonal profile of the patient. " To conclude that " item X " shrinks fibroids, we really need to see reliable data that backs up that claim AND THAT CAN BE REPRODUCED by other researchers with other patients, who are similar to ourselves, who have uterine fibroids. To blindly trust herbs, concoctions, or anything just on " someone's say so " can be a waste of time and money. But much. much worse, it can be fraught with real danger and health risks. Ladies, I'm not anti shiitake, anti-vitamin, anti-supplement anti-herbor anti-alternative medicine. Really, I'm not! I just maintain that caution and a THOROUGH investigation are advisable when starting to ingest anything that someone purports to shrink fibroids. Just because something is " natural " doesn't make it free of (often unanticipated) adverse effects. Quite the contrary. The more potent a herb is, the more likely it is to have some kind adverse effects. And interact with other meds, both OTC and prescription. We all may have uterine fibroids, yes, but we are all as different as our DNA, as individual as snow flakes. For that reason alone, we need to be our own researchers. I, like many of us here on this list have OTHER medical conditions. What may be benign/beneficial for one person here, may be problematic for another, absolutely contraindicated for their body, for another non-fibroidal medical condition. Example: If Ginkgo Biloba extract were determined to be " the cure " for fibroids tomorrow, I'd have to pass on that--no matter how desperate I was. Because I know Gingko Biloba has been reported to cause spontaneous bleeding and may interact with anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. For me and MY health, it is a no-no. I wish there were were a " magic bullet " with uterine fibroids, (don't we all?!!!! ) But...... I'm afraid, " So far,.......no cigar. " That doesn't mean everyone here should rush into UAE or surgery. I think we need to keep an open mind, but we should temper that open-mindedness WITH A HEALTHY DOSE OF SKEPTICISM--no matter how frustrated we are with our fibroids. I know, I know!...nothing like fibroids to make a mess out of one's personal universe, and make one feel truly desperate at times. At times, during the 13-year reign of my fibroidal tyrants, I was tempted to do just about anything to eradicate them. But, much like Carla's experience, for years I was choking down various supplements, certain herbs, sustaining weight loss, and regular exercise, and other non-invasive " treatments " which did nothing to change my situation. Like Carla, I certainly didn't " rush " into UAE or myo. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that fibroids are not malignant. How much fibroids have in common with prostate tumors or breast cancer tumors or malignancies in the brain, pancreas or wherever.... is not clear. The fact that shiitake mushrooms have shown promise with cancerous tumors does not necessarily indicate that they would do much for uterine fibroid tumors. Maybe yes, maybe...but not necessarily. That said, I happen to enjoy the taste of shiitake mushrooms (although at heart, I am more of a porcini gal!). So I'll keep cookin' with 'em, and hope they'll be good to my health, as well as my palate. , if you've gone ahead and determined that there are no contraindications, and want to try taking the supplements, go for it. Take good notes, and keep us posted. And despite my skepticism, I really do wish you success. Success that surely could benefit many other LOL, as well. -Roma A friend of mine told me about Shiitake Mushrooms. My friend told me, she knows a lady who had a fibroid tumor the size of a grapefruit, and she took 500mg. of Shiitake Mushroom capsules, and 4 months later she went back to her OB/GYN for another sonogram, and the Dr's were AMAZED because there was NO trace of the tumor. I decided to look it up on the net, and was shocked to learn how beneficail they are, so I ran right out and bought a bottle from my local GNC store.(www.GNC.com) I got 90 capsules for $9.00 Each capsule contains 325mg of dried Shiitake Mushrooms. I am taking 2 capsules a day. Currently on day 3. Will update everyone as soon as I see results. I also included some info on what I read. There are also many testimonies to the uses of this wonderful Japanese Mushroom.
