Guest guest
The use of the word " asymptomatic " is wrong on my part. What I mean is that I did not have heavy bleeding and extraordinary pain. So it really is relative. What I did have was a 20wk size uterus and pain that was managed with 800-1000mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours when I had my period (and at other times increasingly). Compared to some women on this board, that's a cake walk. Even with these symptoms my doctor didn't feel I needed surgery until he ordered an ultrasound of my kidneys (I'd never had one of my kidneys, just a pelvic) and saw that one of my fibroids was pressing down on my ureter and that this would definitely cause kidney damage if not taken care of. That's why I had a myo - not because of my symptoms. As for the quality of life improvement - I don't have to go to the bathroom within 20 minutes of drinking a liquid anymore ( I was in the bathroom maybe 20 times a day) and can sleep through the night; I can move my bowels so much easier (I didn't even realize it had become a problem it was so gradual- or maybe it was denial); my stomach doesn't feel like a bowling ball; I am pain-free. I don't dread my period wondering how much pain I'm going to have or if this is the month I start having bleeding problems. A health professional told me that women with fibroids understate the discomfort and pain they experience, amen to that. It's not normal to have to " manage " pain popping ibuprofen like candy.
