Guest guest
Here's an embarrassing problem if I ever saw one!!! I guess I really never " ate right " but starting eating right when I wanted to lose some of this 20-30 lbs. that estrogen put on/in me! Now I seem to have a problem with *horribly* smelling gas...it just about knocks me out, but I'm sure the bugs in the house go running awry also! I must be ready to kill my family after my bathroom " issues " , but is there anything one can take to decrease the gas " smelly " problems, or is this just a " side effect " of our surgery. I'm post-op 10 years (!!!), but I don't ever remember my gas smelling this bad before. Somebody told me that they sell charcoal in tablet form at the drug store but haven't gotten there to check it out yet. Thanks for whatever help anybody can be on this " smelly " subject! My family and the exterminator will be happy to see that this is resolved!! ) ===== Beth Watts RNY Procedure November 1992 West Palm Beach, FL __________________________________________________

There are several things you can try. Eliminate common food culprits from your diet for two weeks at a clip to see if it improves. Common gas producers are wheat, dairy (particularly milk and cottage cheese), and for me - potatoes! I know several folks who take acidopholus which restores the bacterial balance in the intestinal tract and helps with gas and odor. I know many people who take a product called Devrom which does not reduce the frequency of the gas, but takes away most of the smell of the gas, and bowel movements for that matter. I couldn't be bothered to take three pills a day, but most don't mind. You can get it online at www.parthenoninc.com My favorite air freshener, after two years of trials, is Medi-Aire. No icky aftersmell, it really kills the odor (not just masks it). I keep little spray bottles in every room of the house. Kate

Guest guest
The charcoal might help, if used as directed. Taken just before a meal, not with any other supplements or meds, it can help the gas a bit. It's just bulky to use that way. Some people use Gas X or Phazyme. I use flagyl. There are lots of places online that carry it, for up to $9.00 for the same spray. I like www.exmed.net - they're reasonably priced, and delivery is FAST! kate

I use flagyl. , Yes, I've used Gas X/Phazyme before, is Flagyl a prescription you need to get from a doctor? It just doesn't sound natural to swallow charcoal! LOL I also saw something about " gas " on your website? Does that work? ===== Beth Watts RNY Procedure November 1992 West Palm Beach, FL __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Beth, You didn't say exactly what you are eating that has changed. I have learned (the embarrassing way) that if I eat cauliflower (the worst!), brussel sprouts and peppers, the smell kills. Also, drinking water definitely helps the whole process. Guest guest
Flagyl is Rx, yes. And is usually used in a " course " . Some do 14 days, some do 21 days, then go off for a few months. That anti-gas is simethicone. It helps keep the gas bubbles tiny, so if you eat chili, you could chase it with this and it would help break up the gas which is inevitable. But it won't prevent gas. No. Thanks, http://www.vitalady.com For info on PayPal, click this link: https://secure.paypal.com/affil/pal=vitalady%40bigfoot.com Re: Smelly gas??? > --- " Vitalady@...
