Guest guest
While it's always a good idea to be physically fit, you don't necessarily need to be in top condition in order to have a relatively easy recovery period. If I had to be in top condition, I never would have had my myo For one thing, with an infant and a 1-hour commute, I don't have a lot of time to devote to training for surgery. My recovery was fairly quick. I was only in the hospital one night, and I went back to work the third week after the myo. I worked at home for two weeks and then resume commuting. The first week after the myo, my husband stayed home in case I needed help with anything, but I think I would have been fine home by myself, as we did the laundry, grocery shopping, etc. before the myo. I didn't need help with taking a shower or anything like that. As for my fitness level, I'm in so-so condition. I'm 30 pounds overweight, and for exercise, I walk my dog for about 20 minutes daily. Oh, and I also do a lot of baby-lifting I do have strong abdominal muscles, however, from singing regularly with a local chorus (singing properly requires using your diaphragm correctly, which most people don't do, and that in turn builds up your abdominal muscles). I think having strong abdominal muscles definitely helps when recovering from a myo. One thing I did do--which was actually a necessity for me because I was recovering from strep throat--was to get lots of sleep the week before my myo. I do think that people who aren't fit at all would benefit from getting in better condition before having surgery, but I think people who are in moderate to good condition probably don't need to work too hard to be ready for surgery. Don't avoid having a myo just because you don't have the body of an athlete. On the other hand, if you have the time and the inclination to get in top condition, by all means, go for it!
