Highlights From the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists 32nd Annual Meeting " One of the major issues discussed at this meeting was the management of uterine fibroids. Francis L. Hutchins, Jr, MD (Libertyville, Illinois), chaired a panel discussion entitled " The Obsolescence of Hysterectomy for the Treatment of Uterine Fibroids. " An expert panel reviewed some of the promising nonsurgical and surgical therapies that will likely challenge the future utility of hysterectomy for uterine fibroids. In addition, global endometrial ablation techniques and the new hysteroscopic procedure for permanent sterilization were discussed. These topics are reviewed in this report.
