Guest guest
I am an emotional wreck! I have a sonohysterogram (or a hysterosonogram, I don't know which exactly) scheduled for Thursday to determine whether my pedunculated fibroid is outside or inside the uterus, and have been looking through the list about it...first, I was told it would be saline in me, but the receptionist asked if I was allergic to iodine. What would this have to do with anything - do they use dye as well? And also, I was prescribed an antibiotic to take the day before the procedure and three days afterwards...I couldn't find anyone say they had to take antibiotics before the procedure, is this common? I asked why and they said to prevent infection, since something foreign is going into the uterus. The pharmacist said it would counter my birth control pills, so I really don't want to take them if I don't have to! Also, one last question: how do they put the saline into the uterus? He said a catheter, but I don't exactly know what that means...it sounds very unpleasant....please help!
Guest guest
I had a sonohysterogram about a month ago. It was not the most unpleasant procedure I've had to deal with regarding these alien fireballs (that would be the endometrial biopsy that was sprung on me). I didn't have to take antibiotics; I was asked about iodine as well, but I don't know why. Basically, they do a pelvic and a transvaginal ultrasound, they then tread a catheter through the cervix and put the saline in and continue with the transvaginal. I won't lie, it wasn't the *most* fun, but it really does sound worse than it really is. I took some Motrine about a half hour before hand and any cramping wasn't nearly as bad as some of the menstral cramps I've had. I completely understand about being an emotional wreck -- I often feel like I have no control over what is going on with my body -- but please know that this procedure is not painful or dangerous and it will (hopefully) give you a much clearer picture of what is going on. --Lee --On Wednesday, December 17, 2003 2:15 AM +0000 uterinefibroids wrote: > Message: 19 > Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2003 00:29:07 -0000 > From: monkski222@... > Subject: questions on sonohysterogram > I have a sonohysterogram (or a hysterosonogram, I don't know which exactly) scheduled for Thursday to determine whether my pedunculated fibroid is outside or inside the uterus, and have been looking through the list about it...first, I > was told it would be saline in me, but the receptionist asked if I > was allergic to iodine. Guest guest
I had this done and was also perscribed antibiotics. It is just precautionary. I also was told to take a few motrin an hour prior to the procedure. I won't lie....it is not the most comfortable procedure but it really did not hurt...just a little cramping. > I am an emotional wreck! Guest guest
I, too had the procedure, it was in early December. The saline was not bad at all, the part I found to be painful was the specula. Because I was very nervouy, I tightened up, it became uncomfortable -- - the doctor had suggested valium for the nervousness because he was having difficulty with the catherer. I guess I loosed up a little and as such did not need the valium. Besides the specula, it was not painful at all. (I had seaweed inserted to dilate my cervix a few months back and that was the worst experience I have had to date). Please don't worry, the more relaxed you are the quicker and smoother the procedure, trust me.
