Guest guest
I want to say hi to everyone and tell you a little about myself. My name is Sheila, 46, in Dallas area, and was diagnosed with fibroids about 5+ years ago initially. I have done nothing to treat it/them in that timeframe, but two gyn's have suggested hysterectomy. I had my first ultrasound yesterday and see the IR today. I was hell-bent on getting the UFE/UAE and thought it would be a quick procedure with no after effects (from an advertisement I saw locally), but then read other info that there is continued bleeding and pain for quite a while. I was also shocked to learned that plastic was injected, as I had originally " thought " that it was some type of cauterization procedure. So, I have also made an appointment with my gyn to discuss all options, but I think (I hope) it will be better for me going back to him with ultrasounds and IR's perspective, and with all new-to-me information regarding other options available. I haven't seen him in nearly two years, and he is one of the ones suggesting hysterectomy if my uterus reached the 14-week size (was 12-week then). The loss of blood/clots every month has gotten to a debilitating stage where I can't leave the house for several days a month... and I know that doesn't seem like much to many of you from what I've read here, but it impacts my life. Especially as a student. I have a couple of questions... First of all, in your experiences, does obesity play a part in whether or not UAE is an option? How about varicose veins? Has anyone here tried alternative holistic/homeopathic therapies before resorting to surgery? I would be interested in hearing those, but will also search through the archives for info such as this. I noticed the pictures of fibroids on this group and from a couple of the websites posted. Are the pictures posted here from " your " individual surgeries and how were you able to get them? I am trying to read as much as I can here to learn all I need to know, to be able to ask the right questions, and be able to make an informed decision. I am at a little of a disadvantage because I thought I could get this taken care of over Winter break from school, but with all this new information, I realize I am rushing things without fully understanding all my options. My disadvantage is that I am on COBRA and my benefits will run out in May 2004. Hopefully I can find out lots between now and then and schedule something as early in that month as finals/school attendance allows. Bless you all for being here, Sheila H. Guest guest
This may sound a bit odd and I am only telling you what a friend of mine did. She was in an ashram many years ago. She had a fibroid that grew so large that she had to wear maternity clothes and looked full term. They had her drink beet juice for 2 weeks and absolutely nothing else. It did shrink substantially. It sounds crazy and I never tried it(HATE beets) patti Cheryl Magadieu wrote: Welcome to the group! Guest guest
Hi Patti, thanks for sharing your beet/ashram story...I don't find it hard to beleive that you can shrink fibroids by doing a deep cleansing diet such as beet juice or raw foods. I keep on finding articles about women who have gone on raw food diets and have been successful in shrinking their fibroids. I have tried every alternative therapy out there, I am mostly vegetarian but still eat cheese/dairy and drink the occasional coffee which is not great for fibroids. I will definitly be trying the raw food diet along with the lemon/water cleanse to see if mine shrink. It's definitely worth a shot! I wish I could fly off to India and live in an Ashram for a few months to do it! maybe one day... Thanks again for that story inspiring me to do the cleanse. Some readings suggest that fibroids are created because of our exposure to certain toxins in the environment as well as 'emotional toxins' that we have not dealt with which I find interesting... All the Best! Nadine --- Patti wrote: She had a fibroid that grew so large that > she had to wear maternity clothes and looked full > term.
