Hi Everyone;

Sorry , I haven't kept up w/ the posts, been very busy. Hope

everyone is doing well.

Anyway, yesterday, I finally saw the endo that was recommended on

thyroid info site. I had to wait six weeks for the app't, and it was

during that time that I have been self medicating (very

successfully) out of desperation.

I went in prepared, with my blood work from before I started w/

synthroid, and armour. I had also made a timeline going back to 1989

briefly spelling out things of importance for each year.

Well, the doc was a very nice , older Brazilian man.He asked what

was wrong, and I handed him the timeline. After he read it, he asked

if I was a nurse or in the medical field. I didn't answer , but

looked at him as if to say, " Go on " .He told me that most people did

not know what certain things were (follicular adenoma w/ some

atypia) 'but I did " . I wanted to tell him that if you think you are

going under the knife for cancer, you damn well research this stuff

on the internet! Instead I decided to remain quiet.

He told me that my other doc was right in wanting me on meds if

for nothing else, to supress tsh to inhibit further growths in the

other remaining thyroid lobe. He said, however, that the doc wa

swrong in saying that my tsh was " normal " at 4.25; and that my t4

was really low (Maybe that's why I instinctively sprinkled a little

synthroid over my naturethroid??)

I then told him that when I had a severe reaction to synthroid, I

was given a student doctor instead of my own endo, who treated me

like I should be happy to get any meds at all w/ a normal tsh of

4.25! and then they took me off everything for two weeks before

starting me on armour. At that point, I told him, I created what was

probably the biggest sin in the medical community by self

medicating. However, this was only when the treatment that I was

supposedly receiving was leaving me w/ a body temp under 97 ,

freezing extremities, and non stop vaginal bleeding since august!

He then asked where I got my naturethroid. I hesitated and said

that I had two prescriptions for armour and synthroid legitimately

prescribed to me, but that I was exceeding prescription dosage. A

few minutes later, he asked me again about where I was getting

naturethroid " because he never heard of it " . I just said that it was

a hypo allergenic form of armour but did not tell him where I got

it. He asked me one more time during the visit, and I just looked at

him for a second, and then said, " I think it's manufactured in

arizona, by western research laboratories " He finally got the hint

that I wasn't talking, and wrote me two prescriptions, one for

naturethroid , 200 30 mgs pills refillable 6 x's, and one for

synthroid, 25mcgs refillable 4x (I split them and take half of one

each day). He then told me that he wanted to see me in 6 months to

get a sonogram of my remaining thyroid, and to " do what I had to do "

with the medication. Oh, he also took blood and told me that he

would let me know if I was over the limit or not. He said he wanted

my tsh below a 1.

YAY!! What great news! When they WANT a TSH under 1 that is significant,

only do we have to have thyroid cancer to get this? Glad you found a doc

willing to work with you!

Add my congrats to Sim for that too. That was too cagey avoiding telling where

Nature Throid can be ordered from exactly. And whew....what a whopping amount of

he ordered...6 refills & 200 pills at first & you decide the dosage? That's like

hitting the jackpot. ..plus the synthroid too? I want that doctor.
