Guest guest
I've been working with Mom's endo to get the right mix of T4 and T3 - he won't prescribe Armour due to Mom's age (83). She's currently taking 137mcg Levoxyl and 5mcg Cytomel (morning) and another 5mcg Cytomel (evening). Here's the new labs: TSH 0.03 (.40-5.50) FT4 1.6 (.8-1.8) FT3 327 (230-420) Questions: -Does this look about right? Continue with same meds? -Continue .137 Levoxyl but add another 5mcg Cytomel? -Decrease T4 and/or add T3 Since adding the T3, Mom's temps have been a little higher, she is not so cold all the time, and her hair is better. She sleeps a lot, has no appetite, skin problems. Looking for advice - we see the endo again next week. Thanks! ....joan

Guest guest
I think you will have a hard time getting what you want from the vast majority of doctors, since her numbers are pegged so micely near the middle and since her TSH is overly suppressed. I am sure the doc is proud of hmself/herself for getting the numbers so nicely placed. But, are these numbers right for her? Who knows where on the " Normal " scale is normal for her. My former doctor Doctor (http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/docdon.htm article by him) used to repeat to me every time I talked to him that the test ranges are skewed toward hypothyroidism. The reason this is has to do whith who takes the tests. The people that take thyroid tests are mostly either sick, old, or suspected hypothyroids. Sick people are often temporarily hypo and as people age they become more hyo to some extent and less efficient at converting and using thyroid hormone. All this works to slightly skew the normal ranges down, as the ranges are determined by who has the tests. So, being pegged exactly in the middle of the range can be just a little hypo. By the posts on this site, I would guess that being dead center is a little hypo and sometimes a lot hypo for most people. At the bottom of Dr. 's article (the link above) is a link to his email address. You can write him and ask about this. He writes back, usually within a week. Guest guest
The greater question is how does she feel? Does she feel better? Does she say so, or could there be some improvement there? The labs may look pretty good, but if she still feels hypo, then they aren't right for HER.
