Guest guest
DJ has a month left with his Doc band. He's been in it for two months. I definitely see some rounding, but his head is still very assymetrical. It's less " square " than it was, but still noticeably assymetrical. The CT tech told me that he may or may not need a second band...she said it would be the parents' decision whether or not to continue treatment with another band. DJ will be 9 months old this week. Any thoughts on why the changes we've seen haven't been that dramatic? Any opinions on the value of a second band at this age? DJ is happy and healthy - thank God. We'd love for him to " graduate " asap, but if a second band is needed we're on board.
Guest guest
Hi, I don't think 9 months is too late for a second band. You may want to look into other " providers. " We didn't get much improvement in symmetry with our DocBand. She's in a Hanger band now. > > DJ has a month left with his Doc band. Guest guest
9 months is definitely not too late for a second band. Starting around 6-7 months the head growth slows dramatically, so improvement will also be slower. We started our son in his second band at 12 months. It's only been a month, but I already think I see improvement. He wore a STARband for 5 months and got great correction for the 'flat spot' in back, but it didn't help with the facial asymmetry, so we switched to a DOCband. The cranio-facial plastic surgeon we saw for a seond opinion (after we already had the second band) said he feels the fit of the DOCband helps facial asymmetry better than the STARband - possibly because of the extra holding points from the 'hump' in the front. Ultimately you have to ask yourself if you'd be OK with it if his head didn't get any better. If the answer is 'yes', then don't bother with a second band. If the answer is 'no', then you have nothing to lose going with a second band - other than a few thousand dollars. Sheila, mom to , 13 months, STARband 3/5-8/5, DOCband 9/5-? > > > > DJ has a month left with his Doc band. Guest guest
Our son got his second band at 10 months and he has had it about 2 and half months so far. It is a much slower process at this age and the changes are not nearly as dramatic as the first time. But even still, his head is steadily improving. He wore his first band for 8 weeks and he would literally look different sometimes from night to night. It is not like that this time, but every time I compare his headsicle at the CT office he is looking better and better. We also take pictures at home to some comparison of our own. That is just our experience. . .not sure if it helps at all. Stacey > > DJ has a month left with his Doc band.
