Yesterday i tried to eat some 'mushy' food (carrots & parsips

mashed). What a laugh. I managed about 4 teaspoons. Had to push the

stuff to the back of my mouth with my tongue, quickly followed by a

slurp of milk, very unpleasant experience. Felt like a baby being

weaned onto soft food. Anway the Food felt alien, the texture was

wierd and the taste just wasn't the same. My mouth felt strange

(upper palette still numbish)and It was just too frustrating and

stressful That i gave up and decided to stick to blended, pureed

foods for the time being which is a lot easier and less stressful!

Anway today i'm 8 days post-op Yeehaa!

Dear Annie....Hi! I had upper/lower surgery over a year ago. I

remember trying to eat mushy foods for the first time....It deff had

to take some getting use to! But you have to crawl before you walk,

so keep practicing...and soon enough you'll be " walking " . You'll get

there soon enough, at long as it seems 8 days post op is actually not

that far from the surgery, so you really just need to take your time,

follow the doctors instructions as far as food, and exercising the

jaw. Good luck with everything! ~katie~

Haha, yes, my upper palate is weird too--

it feels numb (when i was brushing my teeth

with my new baby toothbrush, I couldn't feel

anything at all) and it also feels like it's being

stretched, which I guess makes sense because

I had a LeForte, where my upper was moved

forward about 4 to 5 mm, and I guess the

muscles there have to stretch.

Eating is a chore, even with soft foods. I can

remove my bands if I want, but I have a small

mouth and it's a pain to put them on. Even

without the bands I can't open my mouth that

wide yet, but seeing that it's only one week, I

guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

My chin is still numb, and to a lesser degree, my

lips. But I'm getting tingles all over the area,

which means the nerves are waking up again.

Annie -

I had the same problem. I was so excited to try stuff like that

(although I could try it around week 2, so I was jumping at the

opportunity!). What I really enjoyed was 's " Soup at Hand. "

It's a soup you can pour in or sip - whichever your mouth will allow

you to do. :) Flavors that are the best: Creamy tomato, Velvety

Potato, and Cream of Chicken (although there are chunks of small

chicken in there, just as a warning).

Things slowly get better... trust me! Glad to hear that you're on day

8! Soon enough you'll be saying 1 month post op and not even

believing you made it this far (even though I knew you would!) :)

Take Care,

Andy

Hi Annie!

I'm 9 days post-op and going through the same thing! I saw my OS

yesterday and he removed the slint and the bands!!! I still habe 2

elastics ( " guiders " ) that I can remove to eat and do exercices to

open my mouth.. Feels weird though, it's not as tight as before!

I'm scared to open my mouth but this morning, I was able to put my

baby finger in there! So I'm graduating to thicker food, after a

week of liquid only.. My heart goes out to the people that are

wired for 4 weeks ++ !!!

Still numb on the right side (lip and chin) but besides that,

feeling pretty good!

To all the post-op people, happy healing! (I hope everyone is

starting to feel a little better...!)

Caro :)

I agree.

But beware the " Pizza " flavored soup in this line. It must have

sounded like a good idea at the time someone came up with it.

It was not.

You do not want to know how I know this.
