Hi I'm new to the group. My 7 month old son got a starband helmet on

last friday. He is supposed to be sleeping in it now, and when he

wakes up in the middle of the night I can't get him back to sleep at

all. I had to take his helmet off last night so we could both get

some sleep. Any ideas on how to get him to sleep better in it?

Thanks!

Hi Miranda!

The first few days with the helmet can be rough! Hang in there, he

will adjust.

The only suggestion that I have is to put some padding under his sheet

so there is 'give' where the helmet is. Lots of people use Memory

foam which can be purchased at Target or Walmart. It is a bit spendy,

though. I think around $40. We opted for a folded quilt under the

sheet which seemed to give Sophie enough padding to get comfortable.

At 7 months old, he should be just fine with a little cushioning in

the crib.

The other thing you should keep in mind is to not take the helmet off

while he is crying. Give him a toy, bottle, paci or make silly noises

until he is happy so that he does not associate the crying with

getting it off. Just something to keep in mind. Never let them think

they win!!! Ha ha!

What kind of helmet did you get? Is it the STARband or the

STARbivalve helmet? We have the actual helmet and it is definitely

different than the band. Much more cumbersome it seems.

Anyway, best of luck. You are doing a good thing for him!!
