yep. that's it. the Rx the doc gave me is helping. she offered prednisone

too, but I said let me try to not take that. Prednisone has caused me enough

damage i think. So far today, I haven't scratched too much...but man, does

that Rx make you sleep.

A stronger antihistamine than Benadryl. Hydroxyzine. it's pretty good. but

i'm still getting hives popping up. I keep thinking...will my immune system

know to turn off this reaction? sure hope it's over soon.

Hi Cindi,

Been there done that with Ceclor. I had hives everywhere. (And trust

me - hives on th bottom of your feet is about as bad as it gets!!!

You can't even wear shoes or socks.) I would go to sleep and wake up

about 2am unable to breath. The only thing that solved that were

Halls cough drops. (And when I told my Dr she said if they work

continue to use them.)

So now it looks like you are allergic to penicillin. That will knock

out all the 'cillins for you. Those are cross referenced to the class

ceclor is in. That's one reason why I don't run to the Dr everytime

I'm sick. I figure that if I'm not getting better after 1 week I'll

go. Otherwise it is scary knowing that there are antibiotics I can't

take.

A stronger prescription for what?!???! Hives are an allergic

reaction. Hope your Dr didn't give you a stronger dose of penicillin.

Louise

PS Still no new doggie. But I'm looking. You should see Snot's

book!!!!! :)

After the cortisone shot, the dr. would give me Attarax pills to take for the

itching. It worked!

you got that right, gal. that itching and hives was MISERABLE. but hey,

when i went back to the doc (after the doc gave me the medicine that made me

have

to go back), they gave me this really good med that causes drowsiness...and

that worked really well until i got the penicillin out of my system. no more

antibiotics for this gal if i can help it. and never penicillin. the bottom

of your feet intensely itching along with 20 other various spots on your body

is not pleasant. but I'm A-okay now!

Oh, my gosh, Cindi! I know this was a long time ago now. But how are you

doing now? Be careful. No more penicillin for you! My father had a reaction

after years of being OK with it. I can understand your feeling. It's like

we are just getting started with living when we finally get correct

medication! Unfortunately, it always seems to take so long to find it too!

in Va.

ok folks...i'm only posting because I want everyone to know how miserable

I've been. :)

I'd been on penicillin for 10 days for an ear infection. when i finished

it,

i started having hives and intense itching. I have been miserable for two

days. The doc wanted to see me because my tongue had gotten a bit swollen

too...and Benadryl just wasn't helping.

Anyway, I now have a stronger prescription that should help my agony. :)

And as I was on the way to the doctor, I thought....wouldn't it be something

if I died of anaphylactic shock after surviving years of hypo?

But i'm gonna live. but dang...ain't it just one thing after another

sometimes?

If you ever have another dose of penicillin again, more than likely, you

would have an anaphylactic attack, since the antibodies are now built in

your body to something you're allergic to. I have read that, if you MUST

have penicillin, rapid desensitization can be done, but who would want to

risk it?! There are so many good antibiotics out there, but only as the

last resort, if the body can't heal itself. They do have their purpose.

Penicillin was a miracle drug and did save a lot of lives out there, in the

past. It's still considered the best one.
