Guest guest Posted August 14, 2006 Report Share Posted August 14, 2006 Hi Everyone - Just had to tell you about the awesome appt. we had with the ortho today. Jakob has been in his STARband 3 weeks now. He was banded at 4 1/2 months, and is now 5 months. He started out +4 standard deviations and a cephalic index of 97%. Today he is at +2 std. dev. and a cephalic index of 92%!!! I could not believe it! We had some amazing growth going on and even the ortho said we got him at a good time. I told him I think Jakob just had a growth spurt the last week because he has been sleeping and eating a lot more. We are so happy we decided to band Jakob. On Thursday Jakob sees a neurosurgeon per our insurance as a 2nd opinion. Drives me crazy because they want CT results to prove his sutures are not closed, I just want them to see the numbers and say here now do you believe me! Sorry a little vent there. So I have all the numbers to show the neurosurgeon so he is on our side. Now we just hope insurance will pay some if not all for this. If not we will do it and are happy we did it overall. On a funnier side...my husband and I were in Target after Jakob's appt. and I was waiting for him to get the car to load up our stuff. Meanwhile I am standing and rocking Jakob because he was falling asleep. There was a mom and 3 of her kids that walked by us. Her older son, looked like 13 or 14 years old said to his mom " look a baby helmet, cool " then he asked her if he had to wear one and she said no but so and so should be. (must be a relative of theirs or someone they know because of the name). Then he ased her what does the helmet do, and her daughter said " it helps straighten the baby's head out " . Too cute. We have gotten a lot of comments and questions about the band as well as stares but overall people are very interested and amazed at what it can do. I am going to post a picture of Jakob and his STARband. Right now it is plain white, we need to decorate it yet. My husband is a Nebraska Husker fan so I think that is what it will be haha. We originally wanted the moolage pattern (look like a cow pattern) but they don't make that kind any more. When I post his picture I will let you know.
