Guest guest
Five days to have a BM!! I am also on iron pills for borderline anemia and do not have any problem with BM. What kind of iron pills are you taking? My doctor recommended Feosol (45 mg/caplet). However, I am finishing up a generic bottle of iron pills (50 mg). What they both have in common is they are *carbonyl* iron. The bottle on the front says " virtually non-constipation, superior intestinal formula, highly absorbable form " " Carbonyl iron is highly absorbable and bioavailable to the body. Carbonyl iron has a much lower incidence of side effects, such as nausea and constipation. " Anyway, as soon as I got home from the hospital, every morning I had the following: - small juice glass of cranberry juice (the kind flavored with grape juice and other juices, not the kind with all the corn syrup--like they gave me in the hospital) - small juice glass of prune juice - bowl of oatmeal - plenty of water all day! I never had a problem. In fact, I cut out the daily prune juice because it was causing the opposite problem! At lunch and/or dinner I have a small salad and mixed vegetables with my meal. So, try the small glass of prune juice every day and some roughage and some oatmeal and see if it helps. I know someone here mentioned the prune juice and it worked wonders for the weeks following surgery. That and a lot of water!! As for the iron and the form of iron, please check the bottle and see what kind it is. Also ask your doctor if there is another kind of iron that would eliminate the problems you are having. At least try the prune juice and lots of water and let us know if that works for you. No one needs more pain on top of the discomfort from the surgery!! I never used a pillow on my abdomen--I can't take anything rubbing on my abdomen because I have a huge bruise there. It is slowly going away. I tried the Arnica Gel, while it feels soothing, I believe the bruise would have gone way slowly with time anyway (my abdo myo was Oct 21). Anyway, everyone is different, but prune juice is an age old remedy! > I had a laporatomy Myo 3 weeks tomorrow to be exact. It took me 5 days to >have a BM. Be sure to use a pillow on your abdomen to help you along the way as a pressure point. Because I am taking iron for anemia, it makes u constipated. It was even more difficult to produce a BM. I was also taking a stool softner, but it really didnt seem to help.
