Guest guest
Hey gang...I've read some of the posts about low sex drive. All seem to be from women. How about some guys with a low sex drive after WLS? Am I alone here? BobA
Guest guest
Absolutely not! It just went away. Testosterone tested " normal " but you know how those charts read.....normal from 10-700 (exxageration) I just started an anti-aging program and chucked absolutely everything from it except for melatonin and testosterone cream. (Even the dog loves it! She licks it off my arm if I'm not careful!) You may register as normal, but there is obviously some big hormonal/chemical stuff associated with weight loss and aging. I've been on it since April 16 and really enjoy feeling frisky and alive again. Also, testosterone has been shown to reduce osteoporosis in men, increase energy, libido, lower blood pressure, increase muscle and reduce fat. It's pros and cons are very well known. It's not fringe medicine like Human Growth Hormone. And if you get it compounded at a pharmacy, it's only about $25 per month. The cost of just a few lap dances..... :-) If you search on yahoo for testosterone replacement, you'll find a number of articles. I'd try a urologist, or an anti-aging doc. The urologist is going to be much cheaper and they've heard everything about men's health and sexuality. in Austin RNY April 1998 Low Sex Drive - the Male Side > Hey gang...I've read some of the posts about low sex drive. Guest guest
I agree with no matter what your testosterone level in blood tests it is worth giving supplementation a try. Especially if you are over 40. What a normal reading is for a 50 year old man will be significantly lower than a normal reading for a 25 year old man and this is where testosterone advocates make their argument. Get your levels up to that 25 year old level and your will feel younger, be leaner and have a higher sex drive. Or so the theory goes. Also, as says there are tons of products and websites devoted to this topic. Body builders have long been advocates of testosterone supplementation to achieve lean muscle mass. I take DHEA and I buy it at COSTCO and take 100mg a day in two 50 mg doses (morning and evening). Does it work????? Well, I am 52 and my girlfriend is a 26 year old Argentine graduate student (stop rolling your eyes ladies). She is absolutely beautiful and in great shape. She is very bright and a sweetheart. I know I am a pretty easy going guy and very good to her...but lets face it at that age and looking like she does...she would not stay around if I could not get the job done..so to speak. Sooo...pass the DHEA. And to state the obvious...there is nothing like a beautiful young woman to get the ol sex drive into overdrive. The bottom line is without WLS I would not be in this position. I would likely be dead by now. So...I count my blessing and take every day as a gift. But anything you can do to make life better..in my mind..it is worth the shot. Good luck and peace. Guest guest
My doctor has prescribed testosterone shots, but I haven't taken them yet because I keep hearing about psychological changes they induce -- but maybe that's an unfounded fear... My situation is compounded by the fact that I'm on Prozac and my wife's on a beta blocker so both of us have impaired sex drives. And now when I could probably have sex -- life is full of ironies. I don't think we've had sex in two or 3 years...oy! However, a 26-year-old girlfriend -- May have to revisit the idea of DHEA.... /john Low Sex Drive - the Male > > Side > > > > > > > Hey gang...I've read some of the posts about low > > sex drive. Guest guest
: Aggression is one of the side effects. The first time I tried it, I went postal with the cable service provider in my area. It was the fourth trip and they were late. I later found after getting off the stuff that I could go postal with those people because they were so incompetent. It has taken 2 weeks for everything to " settle out " for me. At first, there was facial flushing, a little too much impatience. Now I really feel better. And I've discovered that a little " aggression " in the best sense of the word is okay. The difference between saying hello to someone attractive and casting my eyes down. (Big ole geisha girl sissy!) The difference between striking up a bit of a conversation with attendants in stores. It may be a little more intense with shots, which are supposedly the best delivery system because of the ability to control the dose. I think it is a stronger at first, then wears away a little as the week does. Who knows what absorbs through my skin and what the dog is licking off............... in Austin RNY April 1998 Low Sex Drive - the Male > > > Side > > > > > > > > > > Hey gang...I've read some of the posts about low > > > sex drive. Guest guest
Umm one note of caution guys...if you are over 40, especially...get a good prostate exam..and I mean a good one with a DRE and PSA blood level before launching into any hormone treatments. I know...moan, groan...but it is a known fact that testosterone can cause any latent cancers to thrive...so please, beware. I just consulted with my " in house " expert on this...and he said I'm correct. Wishing you all good health! Regards~ Jacque > > If you search on yahoo for testosterone replacement, you'll find a number of > articles. I'd try a urologist, or an anti-aging doc. Guest guest
I think " DRE " is a little overly-technical for this group. I commonly refer to it as a " finger wave. " Joking aside, it's all very true and should be monitored closely. Thanks, in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: Low Sex Drive - the Male Side > Umm one note of caution guys...if you are over 40, especially...get a good > prostate exam..and I mean a good one with a DRE and PSA blood level before > launching into any hormone treatments. Guest guest
If your doc is just " waving " at it on his way by...chances are you haven't had what my " in house expert " calls a " REAL DRE!! " Either that, or my " IHE " is quite a whiner...LOL! Regards~ Jacque > I think " DRE " is a little overly-technical for this group. I commonly refer > to it as a " finger wave. Guest guest
what I've never been able to figure out is -- on whom do they teach that test? Do they have some poor guy bent over the table and a crowd of 15 medical students comes in with their instructor? Plus, you have to learn what a good prostate feels like, and what a bad prostate feels like -- so now we're up to two poor guys bent over the table. I'll have to ask my PCP...but he's the only one I'll let in the room! I think I'm at a teaching hospital!! /john Re: Low Sex Drive - the Male Side > If your doc is just " waving " at it on his way by...chances are you haven't > had what my " in house expert " calls a " REAL DRE!!
