Guest guest
Hi, I'm from Australia and my daughter we just got the ball rolling today for a helmet to correct my 8 month old daughters plagiocephaly. We took her to a specialist at 4 weeks old concerned about the right side of her head being flat, due to interuterine constriction but I was told that it will grow normally, and was referred to a physiotherapist. She told me that it will get better but will take, " months, and months and months. " Needless to say, we don't go to her anymore..she was so rude! Anyway, my husband and I were hoping it would go away in time, as she now only lies down for her naps and she does lie on both sides of her head, but it looks worse now and her ears are totally crooked and the right side of her face protudes more than the left. I saw a good paediatrician (sp? - sorry!) today and we have a referral for a neck ultrasound to asses her left neck muscle and a skull xray. After these we are going to get fitted for a helmet. I'm so glad we are finally getting something proactive done. I hope it's not too late as she is 8 months. She is such a pretty little girl but when you look in the mirror her face looks very asymetrical, I don't want her to be teased at school when she is older. I am worried about the helmet though..the weather is getting warmer and I know she is going to hate wearing it..and I'm worried about comments from others, but if it fixes this problem it's worth it in the long run! Sorry for the long post....just want to introduce myself and find it comforting that I can talk to other parents who are in the same boat.
