Guest guest
Hi Chaps I have been lurking awhile..... Symptoms - crushing fatigue after lunch, ED, underweight, not much strength in muscles, apathy, no stamina, age 47. Am going in to have a blood test this week for T (and hopefully free T ? - although doc wasn't sure his lab did it). I did a saliva test a few months ago which revealed that although T was OK in the morning, it dropped back to baseline for midday and started picking up again about 5 pm. - This seems to reflect my energy levels, which pick up around that time of day. Would this happen to T levels, or do you think it was a rogue reading ? The blood test is scheduled for 9.40am - this may reveal levels are ok ? How much further can I take this if T levels come back OK - would prolactin, oestrogen or other stuff be worth testing ? Can you have high oestrogen if you are thin ? I want to be sure that I have investigated it fully, before moving on - you only get one shot at life, and to have it MISdiagnosed as being OK would be criminal..... Thanks Mike UK
Guest guest
Hi Mike, Make sure you get FSH, LH and Prolactin measured. All are available on the NHS. You would have to battle hard to get Estradiol measured, though it might be worth a try. Saliva tests are a good guide, but not to be wholly relied upon. Having said that, they may be accurate. If you can make sure you get a copy of the results, as is your right, we can help in case of difficulty. Good luck. Best wishes, Nick > Re: Beginner > > Hi Chaps > > I have been lurking awhile..... > > Symptoms - crushing fatigue after lunch, ED, underweight, not > much strength in muscles, apathy, no stamina, age 47. > > Am going in to have a blood test this week for T (and > hopefully free T ? - although doc wasn't sure his lab did > it). Guest guest
Thanks Nick However, if the Total T results come back OK, then doc is not going to be interested in testing anything else is he ? Guest guest
Hi Mike it is not 100% clear if these are your first tests by a GP and/or hospital to uncover your unpleasant symptoms. If these are the first tests then you need to widen the scope as many illnesses can provide this sort of symptom-palet. " Crushing fatigue " : You need Full Blood Count (FBC), check for anaemias such as Iron, Vitamin B12 - heart check: I assume the GP has run the usual checks such as pulse, blood pressure and listened to you heart? Also fasting blood glucose in case you have Diabetes or one of the 2 precursors such as Glucose Intolerance. Testosterone by itself is not really so useful for diagnosis when starting. T levels alter during the day and just because your fatigue mirrors your one saliva test is not really indicative as most hormone levels fall and rise during the day at some time. Also it is not clear except possibly the ED why T and not Thyroid or other hormone illnesses that can also cause ED - even Diabetes. Hope this helps but I feel you need to mention more medical history and have some basic tests such as FRC and Fasting Blood glucose before aiming just to T. Best of luck Re: Beginner >Hi Chaps > >I have been lurking awhile..... > >Symptoms - crushing fatigue after lunch, ED, underweight, not much strength >in muscles, apathy, no stamina, age 47. > >Am going in to have a blood test this week for T (and hopefully free T ? - >although doc wasn't sure his lab did it). Guest guest
Well, I don't make a habit of going to the doc, but I managed to drum up courage for a cardio checkup and blood tests to see where I am - sort of thing to do every 5 years. I mentioned I had the " symptoms " of low T, so he added T to the mix and wasn't sure whether they did free T, but I will make sure the nurse writes it down when she takes the sample .... He agreed to do Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, CR Protein, Blood Glucose(8 hour Fast) plus liver and kidney function. I didn't mention the " fatigue " specifically, as this came under the symptoms of Low T. That's normal. T spike4s at about 4 am and 4 pm. It sounds far more to me like your issues are blood sugar related. But let's see what the blood works says. - - - - Just another albino black sheep
Guest guest
You might be right about blood sugar....although symptoms seem to fit those of low T. Bloodwork comes back at the end of the week. Am having T, Free T, Prolactin, LH, FSH and fasting blood glucose. Insulin wasnt tested tho... Will post results for your perusal... Cheers Mike > > >Am going in to have a blood test this week for T (and hopefully free T ? - > >although doc wasn't sure his lab did it). Guest guest
My 2.5 month old has been in therapy since 2 weeks old. Now we find out she needs a helmet but we must work on positioning which we have been since 2 weeks old. what happens now. I blame my self for so much. I do all of her appointments and therapy visits. I have 2 other children. I can't do it all. I get so tired of going to doctor appointments. What is the process and what will come next for her?
