Guest guest
Hi Everyone! It's been ages since I've been on the board. My son Noah is 14 mos. now and has been in his Hanger band for 3.5 months now for mild plagio. He has one month more to go and looks great. My concern now is his lingering head tilt. I have never been able to get an official diagnosis of torticollis from the pediatrician or the Neurosurgeon because he has full range of motion from side to side and from ears to shoulders. But around 4 mos. old when we first noticed the plagio is when we figured out he was always turning his head to the right when sleeping on his back. He COULD turn his head left but didn't prefer to. Then at 6 mos. when he began sitting we noticed a head tilt to the left. We still couldn't get a tort dx since he had full range of motion. So, I began my own stretches that I found the the files of this site, which I did also with aggressive repo at that time. With the stretches and the repo he began turning to both sides equally while on his back and that hasn't been a problem since, so I eventually stopped the stretches. But he still has the slight head tilt. Finally now at 14 mos. I convinced the pedi to give me a PT referral. The PT definitely sees the tilt but is perplexed because he has good range of motion and I get meet no resistance when doing the stretches. She says she " might " feel a little bit of tightness on that side but it's very mild, if at all. She suggests I do the ear-to-shoulder stretches four times a day along with the ball exercises when possible. She also suggested an opthamology consult to rule out any vision probs. She says there's no reason to continue coming to PT as there is not anything else she can do for him. I also let my chiro uncle do an adjustment on him, but no improvement so far. I will post a photo of Noah's head tilt right now. It is most noticeable when he is sitting while looking down at a toy in his lap. Please, please give me your opinion/advice! Guest guest
Hi Kerry It is good to get the vision issues ruled out and then do the ear to shoulder stretches as much as possible or as much as Noah will let you do them. Here is the torticollis group site Torticolliskids/ They can give you tons of hints on how to do stretches best when kids fight and all. My daughter Willow was in PT/OT for a little over 8months. I would ask you PT to do another eval in a few months or so to make sure it is getting better. My daughter always loved the exercise ball in front of a big mirror.
