Guest guest
Ann, Myself and many others will be waiting to hear what you find out. I did read that in the cases where fibroids return after surgery they are when a women had multiple fibroids. But those stats stated within 5-10 years. So this does sound odd. I will be thinking good thoughts for your sister. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to give you an update on my younger sister who had an abdominal myo last March. She had 6 fibroids that all together were equivalent to the size of a grapefruit. One of the fibroids they brought in an oncologist to remove since it was so close to an artery. She had pain in her back for years and it turned out one fibroid was pressing on a major artery in her back. Her recovery was fine except for the fact that her stitches ripped out and they had to let it heal from the inside out, having other pack the wound with gauze daily. Recently, as we have been talking about my decisions about treatment for my fibroid she has mentioned that she has had some continued pelvic pain. She is a graduate student and hasn't had consistent health insurance coverage as she took last year off to deal with her health issues. Last week she saw an ob/gyn and they did an ultrasound on her to check out the pain. They saw something near her right ovary that the doctor mentioned was either a pedunculated fibroid that might have grown in the meantime, a dermoid cyst or possibly ovarian cancer (mentioning that she might need to get opened up again and might possibly lose an ovary -- a heck of a nice thing to say to a young woman). She's due to have an MRI to find out what is up but is understandably upset. The thing about it seems to be how likely is it that in 8 months any of these conditions could have occurred. The doctor who did her surgery had her wide open, could she actually have missed something? I will let you know what we find out. Guest guest
Good luck for your sister, Ann. Maybe it's nothing. A cyst can go away by itself painlessly. Az
