Guest guest
Di, On my way to the pantry I forget what I'm there for!!. I think it due to my lack of not doing much to simulate my brain. I'm trying to do crossword puzzles every morning (ones in the newspaper) with my tea. I think our brains get cob webs in them because we don't use them on any mental like I did when I was working. That's my theory........Flora
Guest guest
I have short term memory problems too! I had a neuropsychology test and flunked that with my memory. Dr. Fink said it is part of PLS. Part of it could be medication....but the rest...well....I an having terrible trouble holding on to my thoughts...and am forgetting very basic things. Familiar to anyone? Suggestions? Hugs to all! Guest guest
Thanks Rick, It helps to know that it is part of my 'new normal' and that i don't have Alzheimers. I passed THAT test...but flunked the STM test. I have now given my Family Doctor one of those 'NORD " booklets as she had never heard of PLS until I got it! Ha! Take care. Guest guest
Hi Di! Yeah, I ...... well, ummm, maybe. What was the question again? It seems to have slipped my mind. Yes, I have begun noticing some short-term memory loss. I used to know everyone with whom I worked and could greet them by name. Now, I sometimes am not certain who I am talking to at certain times. It takes a few minutes for me to remember. This is true for staff and patients. I have several of each greet me by name and I have no clue who they are. The ones I see on a daily basis are not difficult to remember, but I have found that I remember something about them instead of their names, like: Yeah, he wore an orange jacket yesterday, or She had darker hair the last time I saw her. Little details, but no immediate name. It will take a few seconds before it comes into my consciousness. If I see two of them together, I will know both names immediately. From all that I can remember from Physiological Psychology, I know there is a name for this particular problem, but honestly cannot remember it. It is not Alzheimer's or Dementia, either, but an actual impairment in memory. Sorta like the wires are crossed and short circuiting. This is NOT an everyday thing and many days are normal for me. It seems that the more I have to do, the worse it gets. Does any of this sound familiar? It is relatively new for me. Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most. I once had a photographic memory that I took for granted because I didn't know what it was and assumed that everyone had one. When I lost it during a bout with encephalitis in 1972, I found out what I had lost and grieved over it for a long time.
