Hi group,

I decided to look for a part-time job. I'm still busy with our community

efforts as the publisher of the SPF Website and E-News, do my local

Connections

and help the board on special projects, but those efforts are now part-time

so I need a little more adrenalin in my life, LOL.

It has been 2 years since I quit work and one year since I started to use

the cane all the time outside of the house. I have a job interview this

afternoon and guess what.... I'm nervous about the cane. Ya, I know,

shame on me,

but I think most of you understand. It's not supposed to matter, but

sometimes it does, and that's a bummer. I know that the biggest issue is

just to

forget about it and be confident with a smile, yada, yada, because a frown

and

worrying about it will create negativity. So, I will take a deep breath and

do that!

The job sounds like a good match for me although it's mornings, every day,

and I'd much prefer 3 days a week so I can more easily manage my winter FL

retreats and SPF activities. But, perhaps there could be some flexibility

in

the schedule during the winter months. If it seems as good as it looks on

paper in the ad, and they like me, I'll take it.

It's a busy summer! We are building a smaller home in an over-55 community

(I'm 50... Ed is older, LOL) on the other side of town. It was time to

downsize and get the master bedroom on the main floor. Our house has been

up for

sale for a month but no offers yet ... eeks. Our older of 2 daughters is

getting married July 17 and I'm organizing a Bridal Shower on June 5. We

have

one more trip to FL the week before that!

I'll let you know how the interview goes,

best,

Kathi

Kathi, I think its great that you are able to work. If I could, I

would like to work 3 days a week also but it would be too hard. I

work at a charity store one day a week. Its fun and the people are

great.

Now about the cane.........FORGET ABOUT IT!!......said in that

Brooklynese type of accent (remember I am an aussie, what do i

know). Gosh I couldnt careless about my walker and I get stared at

all the time and a cane.....thats fiddlesticks.

I hope you do well in your interview, which I am sure you will.

Good Luck!!

Hey, thanks for the nice public and many private comments regarding my

concerns with my job interview.

The job interview went very well and the HR rep and Director of the Dept.

were impressed with what I could offer the job. I had some concerns, though.

The hospital is a big organization and the job schedule is every morning and

it doesn't look likely that it would be very flexible in schedule.

I'm contrasting that with an interview I had last week... The job wasn't as

appealing, but the schedule and work environment were much more to my liking

and it is a 10 minute drive instead of a 35 minute drive. The job is with a

one-office attorney who needs to replace his one-person office

manager/paralegal/secretary who does everything for him and the office. He'd

be much more

inclined to allow me flexibility in schedule and that environment seems more

to my liking at this stage of the game than a big organization with HR

department and all the policies and procedures there. I don't need any

benefits,

fortunately.

The attorney emailed me yesterday to ask for references, so I'm on his short

list. I was first in the interview process for the job at the hospital, so

I have time to consider the attorney's position while waiting to hear back

from the hospital. It turns out the attorney was on the Board for the local

United Way when I worked for them many moons ago. He remembered me, since I

organized their events and so I was pretty out there. I remembered him

because he walked with a limp! LOL. Have no idea why, but he certainly

noticed my

cane and limp!

So, I'll get the references to him this week and maybe I'll have an offer

before the end of the week. If so, I'll probably take it.

Thanks for all the support!

best

Kathi
