Guest guest
Hi , well, it's one of the symptoms - have you checked Dr Rind's list? I was taking hydrocortisone 5mg x 4 a day (cheaper to buy 20mg tabs and cut them up) I now take deltacortril 5mg a day, seems to work better as you only have to take it once a day and the effect lasts 24 hours Lynda (in the UK) Lynda...adrenals Lynda, What do you take for your adrenals? Guest guest
low dose cortef does not shut down the adrenals, it assists them Have you looked at Dr Rind's site for adrenal fatigue symptoms - we're NOT talking about adrenal FAILURE http://www.drrind.com/scorecard.asp Lynda (in the UK) Re: Lynda...adrenals How do you know when you adrenals are repaired? When on Cortef, it shuts down the adrenals...so how would you know? The doc told me in a few months we will start the process of weining off and I would get very sick for about 2-3 months while my adrenals try to kick back on. Have you went through this? Guest guest
Lynda, who do you know that has been on steroids for over 5 months and was able to get off? I have read the same books, but people getting off with no problems, I don't know any. I am not trying to be confrontational, I am really curious if you know anyone that has gotten off. Guest guest
I have looked at it and I just finished reading Dr 's book that states it does shut down the adrenals. From the crashes I have on it, I feel that it does shut them down. Do you also have these crashes? When I have mine, my muscles get very weak and feel like weights. I will feel dizzy and very fatigue too. I have heard both ways though stating that it doesn't and it does. My doctor told me that when they take me off, it will take the adrenals a while to kick back on 2-3 months stating I would be very sick during this time. Have you went through this? If they don't kick back on...she said I would be diagnosed with 's. She didn't test for it since the treatment would be the same. So, if the adrenals do not shut down... then when you get taken off the medication..why do they tell you they have to have time to start working again? I look forward to listening to your expierience. Like I said, I have heard it both ways but after doing research feel it does shut them down... maybe I'm wrong? I just pulled the book out and it says: It is important to remember that corticosteroids suppress adrenal function in proportion to the dosage. For this reason it si important that treatment should be withdrawn slowly, never abruptly. It also says: it goes without saying htat if steroid replacement therapy is needed, blood and urine test should be completed regularly to monitor progress. Although the administration of cortisol will produce fast, almost immediate relief, it should not be used except in the most severe cases. Again, this is because the cortisol shuts down the adrenals and as such, may not be substantially therapeutic in the long run. So does it or doesn't it is the question? What do you think? These are quotes directly from Dr 's book????? I look forward to what you think... it's so good to find someone on the same treatment LaCretia > >Reply-To: NaturalThyroidHormones >To: <NaturalThyroidHormones > >Subject: Re: Lynda...adrenals >Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 17:39:22 -0000 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >X-Sender: lyn.worth@... >Received: from n11a.bulk.scd.yahoo.com ([66.94.237.16]) by >mc12-f15.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6824); Fri, 10 Dec >2004 09:40:29 -0800 >Received: from [66.218.66.58] by n11.bulk.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 10 Dec >2004 17:39:51 -0000 >Received: from [66.218.66.30] by mailer7.bulk.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 10 >Dec 2004 17:39:51 -0000 >Received: (qmail 83423 invoked from network); 10 Dec 2004 17:39:51 -0000 >Received: from unknown (66.218.66.166) by m24.grp.scd.yahoo.com with QMQP; >10 Dec 2004 17:39:51 -0000 >Received: from unknown (HELO mta05-winn.mailhost.ntl.com) (212.250.162.8) >by mta5.grp.scd.yahoo.com with SMTP; 10 Dec 2004 17:39:50 -0000 >Received: from aamta02-winn.mailhost.ntl.com ([212.250.162.8]) by >mta05-winn.mailhost.ntl.com with ESMTP id ><20041210173949.SJSM7776.mta05-winn.mailhost.ntl.com@....\ com> > for <NaturalThyroidHormones >; Fri, 10 >Dec 2004 17:39:49 +0000 >Received: from lynda ([82.1.178.85]) by aamta02-winn.mailhost.ntl.com > with SMTP id ><20041210173949.GFAZ20377.aamta02-winn.mailhost.ntl.com@lynda> for ><NaturalThyroidHormones >; Fri, 10 Dec 2004 >17:39:49 +0000 >X-Message-Info: JGTYoYF78jG8loFtonbVRzdJ3zjADgYA >X-Yahoo-Newman-Property: groups-email >X-Apparently-To: NaturalThyroidHormones >References: >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1437 >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1441 >X-eGroups-Remote-IP: 212.250.162.8 >X-Yahoo-Profile: lyndaill >Mailing-List: list NaturalThyroidHormones ; contact >NaturalThyroidHormones-owner >Delivered-To: mailing list NaturalThyroidHormones >Precedence: bulk >List-Unsubscribe: ><mailto:NaturalThyroidHormones-unsubscribe > >Return-Path: >sentto-7991139-42296-1102700391-lacretiamo=hotmail.com@... >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 10 Dec 2004 17:40:29.0347 (UTC) >FILETIME=[5717D730:01C4DEDF] > > >low dose cortef does not shut down the adrenals, it assists them >Have you looked at Dr Rind's site for adrenal fatigue symptoms - we're NOT >talking about adrenal FAILURE >http://www.drrind.com/scorecard.asp > >Lynda (in the UK) > Re: Lynda...adrenals > > > How do you know when you adrenals are repaired? For this reason it si important >that treatment should be withdrawn slowly, never abruptly. I think the important part is " in proportion to the dosage " According to Jefferies in the Safe Uses of Cortisol 20mg hydrocortisone is a safe dosage, I am taking 5mg delta which is equal to that. Truth is I haven't tried to come off it yet, when I do I let you know how I feel. I don't have any crashes, I feel consistently better on it. Guest guest
Well, I wouldn't be capable of doing that kind of activity, so maybe that's your answer. The key word with this kind of treatment is REST, REST AND MORE REST Lynda Re: Lynda...adrenals If this is the case then, why do I still have crashes? I have had issues where like during the summer we went to a water park over the weekend. During the visit at the park I had hypoglycemic episodes which required me to eat something sweet to get over. Then about 3 days afterwards...bit crash.
Guest guest
Deb, yes I would trust Jefferies and also Dr Peatfield has written much the same thing. I'm not concerned about it at all Lynda Re: Lynda...adrenals I agree with you Lynda the operative word is in porportion which usually means physiologic doses which do not suppress the adrenals. I have read on other groups that 's book is not held in great esteem as is Jefferies. I am on physiologic doses and am doing better but am not ready to come off it yet either. I am not worried about it when I do decide either. Deb

Guest guest
I asked and this is her answer. She has given permission for me to post it here. I would say that as long as a person is crashing at all, it means their adrenals still aren't strong. Low blood sugar is a sign of adrenal fatigue. When adrenals are not producing the cortisol they need to, and you support them with 20mg cortisol daily, they are able to rest somewhat...but they need time to recharge. Resting them by supplementing cortisol helps them to recharge more quickly,. Dr. Peatfield says it can take 6 months to 2 years to rebuild the strength of the adrenals...some few people may need to stay on adrenal support for life...but that's only if their adrenals have never been as strong as they should be. While you are taking 20mg which is roughly half of the cortisol healthy adrenals produce on a non stressful day, you will find yourself getting stronger and stronger and more able to deal with stress and stressful situations - but it will happen very slowly. You will first see yourself being able to handle normal days better - with out the nap, etc. You will find you're not stressing over things you were before you began taking the cortisol. When you have more stress, such as a party or strenuous activity, your body may need up to 150mg or more of cortisol. That doesn't mean you should take any more, but it means your adrenals may still not be able to produce what they should if they are still in a stressed state. when you have a fight or flight situation - like a car accident - the cortisol and adrenaline shoot way up. so - when your adrenals were exhausted and before you took cortisol, you might have needed 2-3 days of laying around out of exhaustion to pull yourself back together after a party. with the extra cortef you're taking, you may find you bounce back more quickly, but you are sill going to have crashes until the strength in the adrenals are rebuilt. Peatfield says to take extra cortef for a few days when you are fighting a flu or for strenuous events. There should be NO PROBLEM coming off 20mg cortisone once your adrenals are strong again. If you do feel bad, that means they have not yet gotten strong enough to do without support yet. You will NEVER get worse than how you were originally once you go off cortef. Peatfield says go to half as much for a few days and then off of it. going to half, is to see if your adrenals are now strong enough that you feel fine..if you don't it means you need to go back up to 20mg . I always say give yourself 2 full months of feeling fine consistently before you being to lower your dose. I was on delta for 4 months, then went down to half a dose for 3 months and then off. this was June 1st I went off...and I feel fine. My son was on delta for 10 months, has been on 1/2 a dose for 3 months and is now going to get off. he feels great.
Guest guest
, do you know if sweating after eating carbs is a hypoglycemic reaction? I get this after eating pizza and it's the only thing I can think of. I am off to bed now folks, will try to answer any more questions in the morning Lynda (in the UK) Re: Lynda...adrenals For what it is worth, I have had episodes of hypoglycemia since starting Armour 7 months ago. They are usually associated with changing my dose (either going up or down) and are very related to eating carbos alone.
Guest guest
> , > do you know if sweating after eating carbs is a hypoglycemic reaction? I get this after eating pizza and it's the only thing I can think of. If you do a google search for sweating hypoglycemia many of the articles talk about sweating being part of hypoglycemia. I haven't had that-- I mostly get depressed and very fatigued, like I can't keep my eyes open, almost a " hibernation response " type feeling. It also helps hypoglycemia to eat more frequently, and eat protein and fiber. Both of these stabilize blood sugar. R.
Guest guest
Thank you so much Lynday and ! This makes me feel much better knowing what to expect down the road. I would have thought after being on this for 10 months that I would be having less crashes not more. I guess they aren't quite healed yet if since I keep having mild crashes. The doctor said that they would taper me down slowly and try to make it go smoothly but they said to expect to get sick. I don't think they were trying to scare me but, give me an honest answer to what I was asking. Whenever you get better and your adrenals are just about healed, do you find that you start showing signs of being hyper? I was curious. Thanks again lady's as I have been searching for someone for so long that has done this and it was successful for them. It gives me hope that I will someday be back to just taking my armour instead of the lot of pills I take daily for the adrenal fatigue. The doc has me taking pregnelone and another drug called Provigil. The provigil is a narcolepsy drug to help me stay awake when driving home. Guest guest
Hi, I read that it helps when you get to the lowest dose to take a while to alternate days of taking the low dose and the next day taking none, etc. Also what I did, after I weaned off, I took an adrenal support from the health food store. I don't know how much it helped. My main problem was extreme depression, no motivation etc. But this was also complicated by the fact that I had gradually reduced my anti-depressant and the stupid doctor didn't allow me to increase it back before weaning from the Cortef. I was doing fine on the lower dose of anti-depressant while I was on the Cortef. in Va. * How do you know when you adrenals are repaired? When on Cortef, it shuts down the adrenals...so how would you know? The doc told me in a few months we will start the process of weining off and I would get very sick for about 2-3 months while my adrenals try to kick back on. Have you went through this? ..
