Vicki!

the 23rd is over a week away! Don't you think you should get it checked out sooner? I worry about you!

Vickie

I'm going to see if I can get it x-rayed while I'm

there on the 23rd.

Yes, get that shoulder checked when you go on the 23rd. Glad your eyes seem to be doing fairly well, Vicki. Every little bit of good news helps, huh? Annette

Let me start out by saying that having an appt. set for 5pm and notgetting in until 6pm is far to late for me. His arrival is based onif he can get everything done at the Naval base... and last night he hadan emergency. He's a very nice doctor and put me through the paces. There were a lotof color charts, signs, double vision signs, colors mixed inside othercolors, and the three dimensional pictures. I shot through all of themwith ease. Especially the three dimensional ones... I found them to bevery easy and ran right through them. I found out that if the brain is not sending the proper message to theeye's, you won't get these right away. You'll sit and examine each andevery one. All in all, my color charts showed I'm able to pick out notonly the colors but the numbers inside the circle as well. The doublevision test was a bit trying as it made my left eye start to reallyhurt. All in all, he said the muscles are weak, especially on the left side, but there is NO nerve involvement at all. My brain is sending thecorrect message and he said in fact at a very rapid rate, based on thethree dimensional pictures. He was NOT familiar with Polymyositis buthe admitted he did some reading on it before I arrived. The fact that atone time I lost the ability to smile and some of the facial muscles arestill affected, tells him that my eye's are affected as well.Another thing I learned.... I asked about Ocular Myositis and if it wasthe same as having Polymyositis in your eye's... the answer was NO!It's two different diseases. With Ocular Myositis you have no otherpart of your body that's affected. Also, with OM it develops very fast, over the course of a few days. It's extremely painful and the eyebecomes very red, sore, and you have terrible double vision ofeverything little thing in the room. I don't have that. I will say that my eye's are better than when I saw Dr. Chan, the Opt.in Oct. so this doctor didn't get to see how bad it can get. Even whenreading the eye chart, I did so much better. I read all the way down tothe last line and then he switched it and asked if I could read the verylast line, which I couldn't do....way to small. But, he said that myeye's are perfect. He did say to come in right away if it happensagain. He needs to see it in action. He dilated my eye's so he could see the blood vessels to make sureeverything was fine, which it was.He also asked me to look side to side and this is where you can see theslowness of the eye muscle movement. Looking to the left and lookingup is difficult, causing muscle pain and spasms. All in all, I have great eye's for a person of my age with the exceptionof needing reading glasses.By the time I got done I had a raging headache on the one side. Istill have the whooshing in my ears and after I see my Rheumy on the23rd, I'll see a ear, nose and throat doctor next.I didn't get home until 9:45pm last night. My TV, like I said, wasgoing out so I had to stop at Target and buy a new one. By the time Igot home, fed my kids, climbed into bed... I had the chills, I hurt allover and my head was killing me. I forgot to bring my pills with me soit might have been from not getting my Hydrocort into me on time... This morning, my left arm is killing me. The end of my shoulder area isnot only sore but the pain is deep inside. So cold to the touch that Ihave a wool scarf wrapped around the area. Did I tell you I think Imight have fracture my collar bone last week? Not sure, but I can't putpressure on my elbow, like prop myself up on my elbow.... it causes agreat deal of pain in my collar bone...then it's sore to the touch for acouple of days. I'm going to see if I can get it x-rayed while I'mthere on the 23rd. I guess it could be just the muscles that's causingthe pain. We'll see. Well, that seems to be all the update.. I'm fine with the exception ofthe myositis in my face and eyes... Take care,Vicki

Sounds like you had a great eye appt., Vicki. I'm so glad to hear there's no

nerve involvement. Hopefully someone can give you an explanation for the

whooshing in your ears and your dizziness. I think you should have some of

those tests that Venita had done. Ask your Dr......it might be worth a shot.
