And so i have worried about whether i am getting my nutrients from the supplements I take. I suppose liquid form would be more readily absorbed than solid? Guest guest
I've used a juicer for mostly vegetable juicing for about 15 years. It's priceless. There's books on what different juices are good for & also for how to use them for fasting & cleansing the body/mind. I use mine nearly every day but had to quit for many months when I was injured & couldn't do it. A person can get more nutrition into their body with juices than just general eating or even taking supplements sometimes. I'm currently juicing mostly celery to drink before meals for digestive problems & cabbage juice to eliminate bad bacteria in my stomach & duodenum that might be an ulcer starting to form. It's working!!! I'm also juicing carrots, parsley & cabbage separately just to drink for the nutrition & to help alkanalize my body & reduce acid. That's working too with other dietary changes. I've lived on veggie & fruit juices for weeks at a time for fasting & cleansing. Haven't done that in years tho...lack the self-discipline anymore & it's too hard for me to physically make all that much juice all the time. Guest guest
I have two small but excellent books on juicing: " Make Your Juicer Your Drug Store " by Dr. Newman...a Naturopath & physical therapist, 191 pages. And " How to Keep Slim, Healthy & Young With Juice Fasting: The Age-old way to a New You!: by Dr. Paavo Airola, 77 pages Re: Juicers My dad shared his juice drinks with me. Guest guest
I have a juicer that I bought many years ago. Mainly stays in the cabinet! LOL I think it is a pain to use. You have to buy a good amount of veggies to get lots of juice. Might as well juice up enough for the next day also while you are at it. I hated to see all that " fiber " going to down the garbage dispo and only get a small amount of juice. It is a good thing to do if you are not going to eat veggies and if you don't mind all the work and mess involved with this. I also didn't really like the taste of this. Adding apples made it better, but then you have all those calories and natural sugar from the apple juice! Since I am not a big fan of eating veggies raw and don't like to cook either, I started eating baby food to get my veggies. Bonus, you also get fiber! I just chug down a jar of carrots, garden veggies, etc. Have a glass of water on hand, you will need it! LOL You do get used to the taste though. I take baby food with me on trips, etc. My friends think I'm nuts, but who cares. I lost weight doing this years ago, before thyroid problems. Before every meal I would eat 2 jars of veggie baby food and drink a full glass of water. I didn't eat nearly as much for lunch and dinner when I did this! Just my 2 cents worth, Kathy Re: Juicers >Date: Sun, 5 Dec 2004 22:09:15 -0800 >

Guest guest
Kathy - thanks for this post. Just last night I asked my brother if I could borrow his juicer for a month before investing in one. I know juicing is a good thing to do, but I was thinking about the work and the mess... and the taste! Plus, you have to know which foods go together or don't go together and you can overdo some veggies and that's not good for you. It would take planning and more trips to the grocery store to always have fresh foods and knowledge of recipes, etc. None of which I have the energy for right now. Guest guest
Hi Joan, I have juiced on and off for many years and have collected quite a few Juice Recipes. ...Below are just a few..... I have more if you'd like....... I juiced fresh ginger root, 3 apple, and a pink grapefruit for breakfast this morning. I have found apples and celery to boost my energy level. Fresh juice tastes better than frozen or bottled juices, I only shop once a week for my fruits & veggies. Cheryl Juice Recipes: Fruit and vegetable juices are the cleansers, energizers, builders, and regenerators of the human system. A combination of either fresh, raw fruit or vegetable juices will supply all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals, protein and fats critical to increased vitality! By adding live juices to one's diet as a daily routine, many have experienced a rejuvenating effect and healing of various illnesses such as cancer, leukemia, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, skin infections, liver disorders, alcoholism and smoking. Supplying the body with easily-absorbed nutrients, while the body is cleansing itself in the fasting state, avoids the dangers of total abstinence associated with water fasting. For most health conditions, juice fasting is the best method to transform health. Because juice fasting removes toxins and excess fatty tissue while supplying a full spectrum of nutrients, it has an advantage over any weight loss program. Guest guest
Yes...juicing is a royal nuisance. It's major, very painful work for me which is why I quit doing it years ago. I only just started doing a bit of it because of the acid reflux & fear of having an ulcer. Baby food could be the answer too tho. Might try that instead. What the heck. I also discovered that sauer kraut is good for ulcers & indigistion because it's fermented cabbage with vitamin K in it. Re: Juicers Kathy - thanks for this post. Guest guest
I just use mostly an equal amount of carrots to 1 whole bunch of celery with a whole bunch of parsley. This tastes pretty good to me when served at room temperature if not more than a day old. The carrot juice starts coagulating & getting sour & spoiled after 2 days tho...so drink it the first day if possible. For extra greens & added iron & minerals plus oxygen one could add a l/2 bunch of spinach too. Doesn't taste too bad. I've tried mostly greens like spinach with kale or chard for their oxygen/alkaline & calcium content but it's just too bitter...yuk!!! I have to have carrots in it to offset that or just can't drink it at all. Tho they say not to drink too much carrot juice because it's got more sugar in it. But it's very healing anyway, loaded with beta carotene/vitamin A in a non-toxic form. Adding some cabbage is good for digestion & keeps ulcers away. Cabbage juice isn't bitter either. Some people like the bitter tastes like in mustard greens or dandelion greens but I hate it. From: Tigger Any juicing recipes... I'd be interested in hearing some. Guest guest
I think I would juice more often if I had one of those small single-serving juicers. I have a bug klunky one that's a royal pain to be taking apart & cleaning all the time. A small one-serving juicer would require washing, peeling, slicing only a few veggies at a time too instead of a mess of them for a larger juicer. That's too much work. I might search around for one of those smaller juicers. They're invaluable for weight loss & diets tho. Also for helping to heal the body of a host of dis-eases. Guest guest
With The Juice Man Juicers all you have to do is slice the fruit or veggies in quarters and push through..the juice flows into your glass while the pulp shoots into the bin in the back making an excellent addition to my mulch pile! Clean up is not difficult at all, simply rince the parts (a little rubbing on the outside of the mesh titanium blade while holding under running water releases the skin & pulp that may be stuck on the blade).....BTW: They are on sale for $99.00 Cheryl Caroline Pollak wrote: I think I would juice more often if I had one of those small single-serving juicers. Guest guest
We're not supposed to mix fruit with veggies......supposed to eat each fruit by itself 20 minutes apart from other foods. But if you must have some fruit in with your juices, the most benign to mix in would be a bit of apple or pear. Still not a good idea even then tho. Should rely on carrots for sweetening only. Or just drink straight carrot juice to start with. Or just fruits...but only one fruit at a time is the general rule. Guest guest
It's very bad for the digestion to mix fruits & veggies together..specially some more than others. They digest at different rates for one thing. Fruits are more cleansing & purgative. Veggies are more healing & soothing. They should be juiced & drunk separately for better assimilation, effectiveness & digestion. Espcially if there's any digestive or candida problems already. If there's candida (yeast infections), then no fruits at all should be eaten or drunk. From: JAMY why should you not mix? I can see protein and fruit, but why not fruit juice and veggie juice.
