Guest guest
I was wondering what the average time off of work is for WLS patients. I was shooting for about 3-4 weeks but my boss overheard my surgeon telling someone he makes us take 8. I don't WANT to take that long, but if that is what is necessary, I'll do it. What have you all experienced as a decent recovery time? Debby in WI 8/6/

Guest guest
Debby, You will probably need a little more time because you are on your feet so much, but if possible go back 1/2 time at first. Dr. n started out with 6 weeks and I said no way. I told him I was planning on 2 weeks and then 1/2 time the 3rd week. He then wrote on my medical release min. 2 weeks. You will know when you are ready to go back. The only thing that would prevent it is if there are any complications or if you have to do heavy lifting, but then again you can probably go back with restrictions. Tell on that if he agrees to be off work for 8 weeks then you will. He could never deal with that - too driven. Plan on 3 weeks and adjust from there. You will see him at week 1 and 2 and you can discuss then and decide based on how you are feeling. D. P.S. We'll have to get together again some time. Are you going to make it to support group on Monday? I plan to be there. 5'9 " – Age 42 – BMI 65.3 442/319/Anywhere under 250 lbs -123 lbs as of July 15th – BMI 47.1 21 before surgery, 102 after Open RNY-150 cm, 1/2 oz pouch - Feb 3, 2003 Surgeon - n, MD - Neenah, WI > I was wondering what the average time off of work is for WLS > patients. Guest guest
Unfortunately n and Wasco are famous for converting to opens. I think there is only 1 person in support group that actually managed to come out with a LAP. Even a 40 BMI with no co-morbs ended up being converted at the end. So don't plan on a LAP, then you won't be disappointed. Betsy said they are working hard to perfect their techique but just don't have everything down and corrdinated so they tend to convert - maybe even a little to quickly. What's strange is they are such great LAP surgeons otherwise and do most of their procedures that way, but WLS. They have been continuing to get additional training by working with other LAP WL surgeons across the country. Maybe it't the combo of those two and now that they have a 3rd guy in there that is going to work with each one of them, they might be able to accomplish it better. They said only the really difficult cases will they likely do surgery together on anymore. They may be talking down the road a bit yet, so you may still have the original duo. Guest guest
Nona, What has happened is when you joined the group, you checked the default box that stated to send you all email. If you would like to change this, go back to the homepage of the group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Gastric_Bypass_Family/ and edit your membership to read either daily digests or no mail. Otherwise, you'll wind up with more than 44 emails in your box from this group! Lol. We're a talkative bunch but you grow to love us, and very informative as well. :-) Welcome to the group! T. Guest guest
Lets do get together soon! While I'm still on unrestricted food.. 20 days seems so CLOSE for me!!!!!! Yep, I work 7-3 on monday so should be able to attend the meeting (assuming my brain is still functioning after work) if it's a slow day in ER I'm good to go, but if there's traumas and lots of sick folks, it tends to wipe me out. Debby in WI 20 days and counting
Guest guest
Nona, It's got to do with how you have your Yahoo account for this group set up. If you do not want the individual e-mails sent to you at home and only want to read them on the website then set your account to no e-mail.
