Guest guest
Hi all! We just visited our baby in Guat who just turned 6 mo and we hope to have him home at 8-9 mos. I would like everything set up to get him banded right away as soon as we bring him home. (We're pretty sure it's plagiocephaly) We live in the Atlanta area and are willing to pay cash and travel for a good experience. My husband is a federal employee and we have a PPO but I think I'd rather get him fitted right away than wait for insur. to maybe cover or not. I've read some mixed reviews on CHOA (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta) and their fitting for the Starband. Would you recommend that we travel to Raleigh, NC for a Cranial Tech fitting? How many trips would we need to make there roughly over the process? Thank you! Kathleen
Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Welcome to the group! I have to say, I was new to this group about a month ago and they have all been so helpful. I visit this website religiously. (I think I'm hooked!) Anyway, we also take a trip to CT in NJ from NYC. It's about 45min to 1-1/2 hours each way, depending on time of day / traffic. We chose to do this because we didn't like other options here in the city. We even paid in full to go with CT/DOC band when our insurance would pay for hanger band because after researching/visiting all options, we felt CT was the best in our area. But, I know Atlanta is much further away to NC then 45min to 1hr. Just so you get an idea of how many trips there will be, here is what we had to do: 1) We went for a consultation appt, 2) then 2 weeks later a casting appt, 3) then 1 week later the helmet came in (actually, usually it takes up to 2 weeks) so went again, 4) then, because it wasn't shaped around his face/ears properly, we went back a few days later to get adjusted, 5) and then, it's the usual 2 week adjustment appoints. In a little over 1 month, we've had 5 appts. But, after this, it should just be every 2 weeks. Good luck with your decision. Mom to Alden, 7 mon, Docband since 8/28.
