Lona good to see you post :) We really have two experts... and JJ...but JJ doesn't post too often so you may miss out on her expertise. We aren't medical experts but some have done more research than others and can help you out better. Induction IS scary, but the second week is much easier than the first.

Dear Wendi, That is how I got the hives. An allergic reaction to an

antibotic. I still have them, though mostly mild. Started in 3-2000. I have

been in the Hosp., Done

the steriods for 6 months. Still have them but not as bad. I take benedryl as

my H1 and zantac as my H2. There are so many more knowlegdeable people on

this list. I am sure some of them will write and give you more info. I just

take mine one day at a time. I am now 58 years young. I hate having the hives

and the itching. I very seldom have swelling but when I do I whine. This is a

very suportive and loving group of people. You are at the right place. Maybe

you can go to the yahoo group and read

some of the archives. I could not have made it without this group. We are all

special to each other. Welcome to the group. Love Carolyn

Dear , How did you do the liver/kidney detox and the skin detox? What is

reactine (sp). Maybe this is what I need to do too. God knows how sick I am

of these hives. Love the list - hate the hives. In 1998 after my cancer

surgery the Dr. told me my liver count was up. He sent the figures to my

Primary Dr. but he never did anything about it. then in 2000 here came the

hives after an antibotic. Thank you.

Love Carolyn

I have been reading for several days now and have learned a lot..Thank you for

this site.

I have had hives for 2 1/2 months now and tried all the antihistimines-they do

not agree

with me. The newer ones like Zyrtec and Allegra make me dizzy and have heart

paps as do

Zantac etc. I am at my wits end, the allergy doc does not know where to go from

here. I

can tolerate small amounts of Benedyl. My hives are very bad right now all over

the

place. Sometimes they only come out in the am and again at pm. And strange

enough they

go away when I am sleeping. I am very tired, I don't know if it is the hives or

the

stress of having the hives.....

It all started from a drug reaction, I am allergic to many drugs. Now my system

seems

to be in overdrive HELP!

Thanks for letting me vent.

...hi welcome. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate reactions. I too

started with a reaction to penicyllin. Which I never knew I was allergic

to. My mother said I wasn't when I was a child. But I have a 1 year old,

and my pregnancy did wierd things to me, mostly nursing. Sometimes

hormonal.....? Who knows?

Have you tried any natural remedies? I did a liver/kidney detox to get the

remainder of the drug out of my body, then I did a skin detox and has worked

very well for me. I am now only on Reactine 20mg a day. Maybe someone else

has some other suggestions. Good luck.

sorry Carolyn, in that novel that I wrote, forgot to answer the question

about Reactine. I guess it's not available under that name in the US. b/c

I never hear anyone else mention it. I'm sure it's just under a diff. name.

I'll read the info I have off the box....k? Reactine, cetirizine

hydrochloride tablets (20 mg), histamine H receptor antagonist. For relief

of symptoms associated w/ seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis and

chronic idiopathic urticaria.

I'm at the max. daily dosage. I can buy it over the counter in 5 or 10 mg.

But this one pill is great. I don't even need the Aerius at this point,

which made me very sleepy during the day, and I have a little rascal to

chase around. Good luck....again....all the best.

Dear , You are such a sweet woman. You have been thru much more than I

did.

I am glad your son is doing great. You seem to have a handle on the hives. I

can relate to the way you felt about the hives. Until I found this list I was

one scared woman. I looked and felt like a freak. I knew of no one that had

had this mess. The Dr. told me he didn't know how to cure them or exactly why

I had them longer than 6 week. I found this list and the rest is history. I

have learned to live with them. But, I have not given up on finding a cure or

cause. Its people like you that keep me hanging on. I will do some research

on the detox here in NC. You are special and keep being the positive person

you are. Love Carolyn

Hi ,

Welcome! You have come to the best place possible for help! It's a shame

that Zyrtec makes you dizzy. Your hives seem like mine, I break out within

15 minutes of being awake and then again by 4:00 p.m. I usually have no

hives while sleeping, so we are pretty similar. I am finally doing fairly

well. I take Zyrtec 10 mgs twice a day and Zantac 300 mgs twice a day and

since i've increased my zantac from 150 mgs twice a day to 300 mgs, I have

seen a dramatic decrease in the hives. I'm also on a few other things as

well one including Gastrocrom, which when I started taking it, completely

took my hives away, but then they started creeping back, I think it's a

matter of finding the right combo. I've been fairly hive free except for

when I do physical activity of have pressure on my body, then they come

back. But all in all two days of hives a week is much better than twice

daily. Maybe when you have your next visit, you can ask to try some other

meds. Good luck, i'm sure someone else will have great advice for you! Ann
