Guest guest
My son was diagnosed early ( at 2 mo) with severe plagio caused by tort. (He had about 16ml of assymetry, severe enough that the insurance didn't even require us to try repositioning.because he couldn't hold his head up well enough for the Hanger scan he didn't get his helmet until he was 4 or 5 months old. He's now 10 months old and we just got word from the orthotist that he is done with his helmet! He still has about 4ml of assymetry (but that's a big improvement) but in the 3 week helmet-free trial run, he went down from 5ml to 4 ml on his own and his head width increased while his length stayed the same! Yippee! Although after only really seeing him in the helmet for so long it's strange to see him without it. It's almost like seeing a totally different baby. On the subject of reactions to the helmet the funniest one we had was caused by our little plagio boy. My husband's best friend from high school stopped by. Our son was crawling around on the floor near the coffee table. The friend started to ask " What's he wearing the - " at which point our ds let himself fall backward bumping his helmet on the table leg on the way down, and our friend said " Oh, I see. " At which point I had to explain that the helmet was not because he was just a clumsy little boy. It's just that he learned that since he had a helmet on all of the time he didn't need to be careful about hitting his head. A side note, without the helmet he's had to learn fast (with many bumps for Mommy to kiss better) to be a little more careful and aware of his head! lol
Guest guest
congratulations on your son's graduation! it takes a few bumps, but they do learn not to bang their heads on everything - 0uch. You will quickly get used to seeing their head again and being able to kiss it more easily. enjoy! - christine mom to sydney/ 13 mo/ starband grad 10-06 > > My son was diagnosed early ( at 2 mo) with severe plagio caused by > tort.
