these are good questions Cindi. I have asked him on several occasions about

what they actually tested and made sure that he was aware to tell his dr's that

I had Graves disease & am now hypo. He most likely only had TSH tested, which I

know is not the true picture, especially if the problems are autoimmune. I'm

going to see if I can't talk him into getting his antibodies tested because he

just has too many things that concern me already.

His mother in law just called saying that his wife had a gallbladder attack last

night (after all the rich food) from yesterday so I'm going to have to compile

some info together for him so he can get this checked out for himself once he

gets over the shock that his wife may have to have her gallbladder removed. She

is pregnant so they won't do anything for that at this time and I know he'll be

more concerned with her health than his own right now. I just have such a

sneaky suspicion about all this right now. His mother in law had problems with

her parathyroid gland a few years ago and was very sick with it. She is having

an ultrasound done now, and a biopsy because they found a 'mass' around the

parathyroid gland and the thyroid. Her dad is diabetic, and her mom with

thyroid issues......and a sister who had thyroid problems and takes Synthroid

and Wellbutrin make me awfully suspicious for my grandkids.

Never believe " normal " until you've seen the labs for yourself. What labs

did he have? Just the TSH? He should demand a Free T4 and Free T3 and

antibodies testing. My TSH was normal all my life until I got so sick I was

basically

just staying on the couch waiting for my heart to stop. Not everyone's TSH

reflects their thyroid status. Remember studies have shown 40% of folks with

thyroid dysfunction have pituitary dysfunction. So he needs to check this out

further.

oh yeah. If I could get my husband to test, I'm sure he is too. What a hoot.

yes, and funny enough, mine went haywire and was removed not long before I found

out I had thyroid issues.

Dixie, I spoke with him tonite on the phone and mentioned to him how long I'd

been overweight, and how hard it was to lose. I also told him that it wasn't

until I found out that I had the TPO antibodies along with TSI (those are almost

non existant now) that I realized why Armour worked so well for me with all the

hypo symptoms I had. I mentioned that it wasn't until I hit 3 1/2 grains of

armour a day that I started losing weight, even only 1-2 lbs a week like I used

to be able to do when cutting back on calories back years and years ago before

this happened to me. Something in what I said kicked in with him and he said he

needed to talk to me about it. He said he'd email me as he had to go do

something for the kids, but would get back with me on this.

I just told him that with all I've heard in the past 24 hours, with his mother

in law having parathyroid problems 3 yrs ago, now the mass they've found where

it has to be checked out with an ultrasound and the mass they say that is there

around the parathyroid and thyroid, he and his wife both need to be aware of

these things. I suspect that years ago, when he was 17, before the grey hair

started at around age 18, that his might have been thyroid related, but they

just never thought to check that with antibodies testing. He did admit that the

silver hair is not normal for young people as he's had over these years. I'm

sending him some links about antibodies that he can check out and read up on.

That may help him to get the proper testing done. I just told him, whatever you

do, get copies of the actual labs with ranges so he can tell me what they are.

I hope she does this and doesn't give him a ration of crap over his asking

specific things to be tested. Some dr's are just so danged 'touchy' on that

subject. lol.
