Dr's negativity

I agree that some of these doctors are just too negative.

My first visit with Dr. was OK, she didn't diagnose vulvodynia

yet, just desquamative vaginitis. But she said I probably had

vulvodynia. Her manner was abrupt.

Next time, I saw her assistant who said I have vulvodynia and

that " there is no cure. The best we can do is manage it. "

I wrote about that on this list and on " vulvodynia support " which is

run by Glaser. He doesn't actually run it, whatever....

I think she heard about negative feedback because something changed. I

had an appointment scheduled and they called to re-schedule so Dr.

could see me herself. When she came in she was upbeat and

actually looked different to me!

I had complained on the list that they were trying one thing at a time

with me and I wanted to know ALL my options up front and be able to

try them.

Well, she offered that to me without me saying a word. She said that

some women do get better and that many times they don't even know why.

I chose a couple of the other options and went on my way with some

hope. This was the type of appointment I had wanted from the start!

And now I am doing great! I am off the amitriptyline and neurontin and

only using hormones.

HOPE is the most important word. Keep it in your heart and believe....

Diane, that is

wonderful! That is exactly what a doctor should be – upbeat when it comes

to dealing with vulvar problems. We all need hope, and hope is what gets us

better. And you were so right about options – not one at a time – not

month after month of endless appointments. We need to know them all upfront, so

we can have a choice in our own managed care. If they would only stop treating

us like we don’t have a brain, much less a vulva! I wish Dr.

and her staff would read some of the posts from this group. They then might get

a clue on exactly what is going on!  I think everyone should try Estrace

topically – it really helps! Don’t expect overnight results, but I

can now see and feel a difference after using it a couple of months. And (Dr.

’s office) keeps

insisting that it doesn’t work! I just wish they would get a grip and

find out exactly what is helping women and all (the V words) are not a death

sentence. It’s the negativity that is making us worse – but it is putting

the dollars in the physician pockets, because they keep making us come back

constantly.

I feel a little concerned about myself. You know I had breast cancer and can't use the hormones. I just use a very little.

I use vagifem which is thought to be okay for breast cancer survivors and a very tiny amount of estrace externally.

I am also on the elavil. I was able at one time to come off the elavil but had a flare and for now figure I am better

off using the elavil. I can't use all that estrogen and maybe it wouldn't improve my problem. Man, I guess it is my life

I have to concentrate on and estrogen is a killer for me, so I guess I will have to go on. The elavil

controls the problem so for now, I guess i will have to settle for that. Thanks for listening, guess I am just

talking out loud. Things in life are never black and white. Millie

Millei----I'm sorry that you have to wrestle with breast cancer vs,

estrogen! I'm glad that you can use Vagifem and a little Estrace! I

think I would be lost without at least those 2 things. I'm so much

better than I used to be! Sandy

And (Dr. ’s office) keeps insisting that it doesn’t work! nne nne, I once went to a doctor that told me that Estrace didn't really work. Instead, he gave me Betamethasone mixed with Eurax cream. Thank goodness I didn't use that cream, I probably would have made myself worse. During that time I had scheduled 3 appt's within a week of each other and the next doc I went to allowed me to 'try' the Estrace...it has helped my skin sooooo much! Makes me mad when they argue and won't allow us to try what we want. My mouth is too big to give up though... Ladies, I use reverse psychology...I remind my doc's that the medical community says there are no 'medical' cures for these conditions so why not allow me to TRY things 'I' think might help!!!! It's a very relevant point when wanting to try a new med! Be sure to take info with you to back up why you want a certain prescription, it really helps! ~Chelle
