October Surgeries

Hi Annie!

At this point I'm only have lower jaw surgery; I don't think they're

going to mess with the chin. I'll know more when I go to the pre-op

appointment on Sept. 22. Right now I'm blissfully unaware....I'm not

afraid anymore, but I am nervous. I suppose it is the unknown thing.

Maybe it's really exhilaration and excitement masquerading as

nervousness?

I know what you mean, " how will I feel when I wake up? " Since mine is

going to be done outpatient in the doctor's office versus a hospital, I

sure hope I'll be feeling absolutely nothing. I don't like drugs, but I

don't like pain either, ha. I don't know anything about the surgery hooks

yet (they sound barbaric really); all I know for sure is I will be

banded, not wired.

I've been craving chocolate too! Though I'm not doing it for the extra

calories, heaven knows. I could stand to lose twenty pounds..

Cheers!

--- Hi Lorna,

I have a pre-op appointment on the 22nd also (as well as the 15th)

and i'm getting my surgical hooks on the 23rd. I'm wondering what'll

it be like having those on, can you talk, do they hurt?? I have to

go to work afterwards so that should be fun. There seems to be a lot

of people having surgeries in October! I could do with losing 20

pounds also, i've done nothing but eat since my last holiday. I'm

not as nervous as i thought i'd be, but nearer the time i'm sure i'll

freak. But it will be worth it in the long term, i just can't wait

to be able to smile without being self-conscious.

Hi Lorna and Annie!

Just wanted to let you know that the surgical hooks are no big deal

at all - they're just little metal hooks attached all along your

braces. They don't hurt and you can talk just fine - your smile just

looks a little more metally!!!

Very wise of you to have your pre-op before getting the hooks on - I

had to have a gazillion clay impressions done (gag city!!!) because

they kept getting screwed up by getting caught on the hooks!

Anyway,

be well and good luck!

Hudis is right on! You may want to make sure you have some wax on hand can

they can poke your gums a bit.
