Guest guest
Vicki, This post certainly made my claws come out !And I have to comment on this ! Im sorry that you were offended by my post, you KNOW where the delete button is..I stated my own personal experiences, and I could tell you many more..Its a FACT,that when your hearing impaired, your treated retarded,I in NO way insinuated we were Retarded !I have been treated that way countless times, and it will happen again and again.I choose to see the humor in this and dont take it seriously... Humor comes from tragidy and thats so TRUE ! I have been so damn sick from this NF crud,I have almost died....I rely on humor to get me through and its done a DAMN good job.and I WILL continue to use it...If some people do NOT have a sense of humor,it's NOT my fault !I don't choose to suck lemons,I face reality...We as deaf people are going to be treated this way and we have to be prepaired for it.It's a FACT of life.Another FACT,I am NOT ignorant, and I DID NOT make fun of people haveing this HORRIBLE disease,NOT at all,its NOT funny, but rather sad.I read posts all the time from crew members that make me cry, yours included ! What I simply stated was how I was treated by other people, and my experiences. What I said was all TRUE! The way I am treated is a FACT of life and it will only continue...I have learned to accept this.In my years of struggeling with this NF2,I have found that if your in any way differnt,,physically mentally etc.You are treated DIFFERNT..Thats a FACT,I choose to accept.I have found a way to deal with mine ! It's clear to me that some people have NOT... If I was truelly IGNORANT and stupid,I could NOT of learned all these TRUE facts, in my 11 and a half years of being deaf, and struggeling with this disease...Sorry some people are dissapointed by my telling the TRUTH,thats their problem Lana n a message dated 9/9/02 5:09:39 AM !!!First Boot!!!, vjpcook@... writes: Crew members who use the word "retard" and further laugh about it are just as ignorant as those who have critical or denegrating comments about those affected by NF2 surgeries and nerve loss. Guest guest
I agree with you Joyce!! ) Jodi, I have had the exact same experience and I agree with Marie...I think that is why we hesitate to tell others we are deaf. I do have a deaf/dumb friend that I call on the TTY, and I think I know where part of this mass stupidness comes from. ASL is NOT proper English, so when a person tries to talk in ASL, they sound DUMB. Of course that does not apply to us late-deafies, but the public regards ANYBODY that is deaf as being of less intelligence. Donna H. This is what i would like to do to people like you talked about earlier.

Guest guest
Lana You go girl. we always have to be so understanding . But every dam day we have to deal with stupid people. Dictionary retard (to delay or slow the progress of ). Those people who are so incapable of perceiving or feeling are deprived of a consciousness. I do think they are delayed. They think if you not perfect your are under them. Well my daughter is perfect. And she is under no one. Except God we will bow down to him. They live in there own little world and need to be invited to the real world. Reality there are as many people in this world who have some kind of disability as the so called perfect people. And most all of us are going to grow old. You know some people think old age is a disability. I can guarantee that some time in are lives we will all have some kind of a disability.Yes even the so called perfect people. Yes some people even stare at old people. If they stare at me i going to hit them with my cane. Oh wait i forgot i'm going blind i won't be able to see them. But i know they will be out there so i will just swing at everyone with my white cane. Remember not everyone out there are delayed give people a chance. Some people just aren't out to hurt . They just don't know how to react they want to be supportive they feel stupid. Because they don't know how sign or don't know about lip reading. Im just saying don't always think the worst. Some thing happen to me the other a day in the store. I saw these two ladies signing well in our small town I was sooooooo happy to see these ladies . I walked up to them to ask a question about pokemon cards they worked there. One girl didn't look me in the face she acted angry . Like just another hearing person. that won't understand me or that will treat me like shit. But she had no idea i had child who is going deaf . And my kid needs friends because she feels very much alone. And has no friends in this small town. So don't be so quick to think the worst. sometimes things aren't always what they seem. Guest guest
Well most people are co clueless about how to communicate with me when I tell them I'm deaf, but maybe you right, I will have to try that.
