hi darcy -

why not just let it go for today and promise yourself that you WILL

do something in the form of a workout tomorrow. a workout doesnt

have to be all sweaty and energetic... heck, you dont even have to

move much... for example, i have found that if i manage just a 30

minute stretch session while recovering from a cold, then i feel so

much better mentally and physically (see tony horton PHH

stretch). this is great to do right before taking your cold med and

hitting the sheets at night:)

Yes, I think we should all take at least a day off a week. I use to take the weekends off, now I just take either Sat or Sun off. I remember when I started working out with Austin YEARS ago, she use to always say that she worked out Monday through Friday and done something fun on the weekend. I think that is good idea and there are times I do take both Sat. and Sun. off. Whenever I'm doing a rotation from Cathe she will have odd days off like take Wednesday off and then workout Sat. and Sun. I actually change the rotation around so I can take either Sat. or Sun off. I wish I could stick totally with the rotation and take an odd day off like that, but I just can't seem to make myself. I don't think it makes a difference with your body as to what days you take off, do you? But then we eat out on the weekends so those should be the days I take off. Grrrrrrrr. lol

darcy,

if you have zip energy then you should rest up. one should always take 1-2 days off a week anyway to repair the body from all its hard work during the week. if you don't let the body rest then it cannot repair itself then you acutally see less results.

You know I've heard that a ton of times (take a rest day), but I think my body normally does fine with working out that much. I've had great results, and don't think I could get any better results with a day off. I am also just leery of myself with taking days off. I am much more motivated to workout when I go full bore, and like I said I love having the option to tae the next day off. When I take a day off, I hate thinking that I "HAVE" to workout the next day now..LOL.. I'm probably not making any sense, but just trying to explain how I feel :) Irrational or not!

Darcy - I am with you - I hate to take a day off from exercise. At the very least I will take a walk outside and do some yoga for stretching. I truly like to get in at least an hour in each day. I threw in a Cathe Stretch workout in addition to my Gilad abs and Fat Burning workouts just to make that hour. Strange addiction!

Darcy,

I think the advice you are getting here is pretty sound. If you're

sick, your body needs to recover and stressing your body is only going

to make it worse.

At other times when you're not sick, it's also important to take a day

off, I think. Each week my wife and I have " Play Day " --that's the one

day when all rules are ignored. If I want ice cream, I have it. If I

want a whole box of animal crackers, I have it. We go out for dinner

and eat cheeseburgers and Mexican food and anything else.

This is actually good physiologically because it shocks your body out

of its usual nutritional rut and forces it to work differently to

metabolize all those calories. It's also healthy psychologically

because it gives you what you are craving and at the same time shows

you why it's not what you want to live on (because at the end of the

day you'll feel satisfied and run down at the same time). Trust me,

it works.

Hi Darcy,

For me it is a tough call (because I'm stubborn and I

like to workout!), but I have learned over the past

year that my body's " laziness " cue is really a sign

that I'm coming down with something or trying to fight

something off and it is best for me to either cut my

intensity way back or take a few extra rest days. I

had my very own experience with this starting about

two weeks ago - I just felt tired - so I did some

lighter workouts - I couldn't figure out why I was

tired, I just was and then last week I ended up coming

down with a fever! So, mystery solved.

I have an all-or-nothing personality to and sometimes

it comes back to bite me in - both in my eating habits

(if I have something " bad " I'll end up going off the

deep-end and eating all sort of " bad " stuff) and

exercise (I think I tend to run myself down - but I'm

hopefully learning from experience!)

Generally, I do like to workout every day - but I'll

always take that 7th day as a light/stretch/recovery

day. Lately I've been doing a 5 day schedule, mostly

due to time and energy issues.

Also, remember, that as a mom, you're constantly on

the go and it is very easy to get run down and tired

b/c you do not have the option of resting when you

need to. Since my daughter was born two years ago I

find myself getting sick more often and when I do get

sick it seems to linger longer - I'm sure it is due to

being on the go and not being able to have a " veg " day

when I need it.

Anyway, hope this helps! Listen to your body if

you're tired take it easy - if you feel that you need

to workout choose something light, easy and fun.

I think that's a great idea Carolyn, and will maybe attempt it next time :)

You're right though about feeling better mentally. I just hate how I feel

when I skip a workout!

I have it in and done for today and am showered. Ya-hoo. I need to go to

wal-mart after I get ready in a bit.......

It does help Donna! Thank you for taking the time to post.... Very true

about being run-down as a mom! All it took was one night for me not to

sleep well, and ever since I've just been soooo groggy and yucky-feeling.

Good for you and trusting your instincts when you were coming down with

something! I can't wait to feel 100% again :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with changing the rotation so it works best for you :) I also don't think it matters what day you take off either! I am kind of shooting to take Tuesdays off since that's when I take my boys to storytime at the library. WE have to leave by 10:00. It's nice to be showered and not have to worry about a workout later in the day.

I've had some better workouts since last Wednesday, I had an online friend send me a lot of new workouts to try. Many of Cathe's. I am just a horrible stepper though..LOL.. She also sent me the ab hits one and Core max one. I can't wait to try those! :)

Thanks . I actually eat what I want 7 days a week pretty-much, but just

in moderation..... I stay happy this way and I don't binge. I will ask

myself a couple of times before caving if it's something on the

" not-so-healthy " side if I really need it..LOL.. for instance, some days I

will have that piece of cake, and other days I will let it go by (like

today - :) I don't stress too often about what I eat. If I eat it, I eat

it, enjoy it, and let it go :) I figure I workout hard enough to not sweat

the small stuff :)

Glad to hear that you have found something that works so well for you also.

:) Thanks for the post.

Hello. The Hanger Band does not cover the ears. In fact, it

shouldn't even realy be touching the ears at all. areas are cut out

on the sides of the band for the ears. The Doc is certainly the more

open of the bands and weighs a little less (I believe 6oz, vs the

Hanger and STARband are about 8oz). However, to be honest, I believe

that most kids adapt just as well and just as quickly to whichever

band they have. My Daughter wore a Hanger band and she adapted very

well and very very rarely ever fussed with her band. She never seemed

uncomfortable.
