Guest guest
Jackie, Can you tell me if you or anyone else in the group takes the capsules of gastrocrom by mouth or just the liquid. I saw a new Dr. today and he was very open to me trying the gastrocrom liquid by mouth and I also told him I wanted the capsules to make my own lotion. He really wasn't sure what I was talking about until I said cromolyn sodium(sp?) and then he agreed to it. However when I got to the pharmacy he had just written the script for capsules and they have to order them. The pharmacy was looking in her books and said one book had the liquid but not capsules and in another book it was just the reverse. I told her I prefer the liquid just because I couldn't remember reading about anyone taking capsules..just the liquid. I guess I'll see what she comes up with tomorrow when I go back in. She also looked at me and said this is very expensive $317.00 ...which I do remember reading. I guess I will find out if insurance pays for it tomorrow also. Thanks for your input on this. Guest guest
Sandy, The capsules are actually the original way gastrocrom was made. You have to mix the powder inside the capsule with a little warm water, then add cold water and drink it. The liquid form is much more convenient, and the cream can be made from either kind. Go for the liquid (ampules). Air hugs, Jackie Life is tough, but I'm tougher. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Guest guest
Sandy, don't mess with the capsules, the liquid form is much better and preferred. I am glad your doctor was willing to try. Guest guest
Jackie, Please bear with me here but for some reason this isn't clicking. What I think i'm understanding here is there is capsules with powder in them that you have to mix with water and drink. Also there is ampules with liquid in them that also has to be mixed with water before drinking. I guess when you said liquid I pictured a bottle of liquid with some sort of measuring cup included that you filled with a certain quantity and then drank it. I did go back to the pharmacy yesterday and they gotten the ampules in for me so I grabbed them and ran, I really didn't care what form it was just so happy I finally got one of them. And my insurance paid for it as well..very very thankful for that. This new Doctor wanted his own lab work done and I am doing that this morning. I will start the gastrocrom as soon as I get back from the lab just in case any adverse reaction. I was wondering what the usual dosage was or if it is the same for everyone mine is 2 ampules four times a day also nothing is mentioned about how much water to mix (assuming typical 8 oz). Thank you for the articles on Masto as I will be printing those out for myself and my Doctor's. And I really want to thank you for all your help and info on this script. Stay well...Sandy B. in IN
Guest guest
Hi Sandy. You've got it right - the capsules contain powder, which first have to be mixed with a little warm water, then that is mixed with cold water to drink. The ampules basically allow you to skip that first step - you just mix the liquid in them with cold water (4 to 8 ozs.) and down the hatch! You want to drink it all at once if you can, so I tend to mix it with closer to about 4 ozs of water. Normal adult dosing is 2 ampules 1/2 hour before meals and at bedtime (8 ampules per day). One box (96 ampules) lasts 12 days. When mixing the cream, you use 5 ampules per batch (makes enough for about a month). Hope it works for you!! Guest guest
, You and Jackie are right, I can see how the liquid is much better than the powder would of been. Thank you both for your guidance on this. The reaction of the Doctor was quite funny when I told him I was diagnosed with CIU over 8 yrs ago. He dropped his pen on the table and lowered his head shaking it side to side and said "ohhh my god". I said and you thought you had a good day going on didn't you? Anyway he is requesting my records from all my Doctors (good luck) and is adamant about me going to Mayo. I told him what do I have to lose by trying the Gastrocrom beings I can't take anything else. He agreed. I had two doses yesterday and one this morning. I know I have to be patient with this but I'm grateful to at least try it. Thanks again for your help. Sandy B. in IN p.s. I hope things are going a little better for your daughter she has been in my thoughts. It's so unfair for a child to have any health problems but a blessing she has you. Take care
Guest guest
Jackie, Thanks for clarifying everything for me. I had 2 doses yesterday and 1 this morning. Am afraid to speak to soon but I think this is going to help. Thanks again for encouraging me to try this. Sandy B. in IN
Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I am sure Jackie answered but I will add my two cents in case she hasn't. It would be best to stick to the ampules (liquid). I think they are so much easier to work with (either orally or by cream) and I think the ampules are more readily available at pharmacies.
