Guest guest
Some of you may remember that my sister was gravely ill last May. She had wls in January and is recovering beautifully. I feel like I have her back. We got devastating news last week. The liver problems discovered during her gastric bypass are worse than anticipated. She may have some type of autoimmune disorder. If the damage continues, she'll need a transplant. Someone basically dropped the ball. Good doctors missed some key signs that she had liver disease. She could spend her time being angry, but instead, she wants to get well. Anyway, this is another reminder to me that most things in my life can't be controlled. People get liver disease and wound complications. They're the victim of crimes, they have horrible car accidents. There are a few things within my control. I can choose to nourish my body with plenty of vegetables, fresh fruit, and lean meat. I can go for a walk now and then. I can get regular checkups. The main power I have is " to make today count. " Every day, no matter how frenzied, I will do something I honestly enjoy. My sister is not in liver failure today, and that's what makes today precious. Yesterday, she took my niece to a mall and they played computer games. The people in my family who've been sickest (me and my sister) are also the most playful. We got the lesson the hard way. I have horrible scars all over my body. I still " date " and truly enjoy having my brains " dated " out on a regular basis. My balance isn't so good because of some of my medical problems. I still go for walks, and I've learned that if I fall down I can get up. I'm out of work, but I'm already enrolled in classes, and I can hardly wait to add to my skills. When I go to my outplacement service I've got a smile for everyone I meet. (Of course, it's easy to be philosophical when you get reorganized with 27K of severance!) Anyway, I hope anyone reading this post can ask themselves if they've done something to make today count. in St. Louis (Going through the movie listings!)
