Guest guest
Patti, again. Iam a Nurse, black stools mean blood! Yes you can have abdominal pain and diarrhea from both Actonel and Fosamax. But the loose stools are usually brown, not black. I reitterate, black stools mean blood in the bowel, black is usually bleeding from the stomach, ie;due to an ulcer or gastritis caused by the offending medication. Also as I said Pepto- Bismal can cause black stools, also iron supplements. If you are not taking either one of these, call your Dr. now, and go to the ER. I don't mean to scare you. Don't wait until tommorrow, don't take anymore actonel. Sincerely, S.

Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Sue. I have seen my doctor and, right now, things are under control. I will see her again next week (Tuesday) and a GI doctor on March 25. Have you ever heard of Evista - they want me to try this one, but I'm really leery of anything until I've seen the GI doctor??? Thanks again, Love, Patti Re: Actonel Patti, I would not take this medication as the GI system of those of us with VEDS is too fragile for medications such as this. The med is known to be caustic in some people, hence the advice of taking the medication and not laying back down. What they don't tell you is why you should not lay back down.....it can cause severe esophagitis if it refluxes back up into the esophagus. If you have had black stools you do need to be seen..... is right, this is a sign of GI bleeding.
