Guest guest
Has anyone been to Disney World when they were only four or five months out from surgery? A friend is wondering if she will be able to use a gastric bypass card to get smaller portions for smaller prices. Experiences anyone? Thanks! Guest guest
Yes she will in some places, but She might want to think about also bringing some of her own foods along and a small soft pack cooler every day. And make sure shes in a hotel room with a small fridge and maybe even ltille cook stove. . Seriously. Unadulterated unfried protein, unfatty stuff, some carrot sticks, fruit, yogurt in small containers, I dont know how she eats, but some of the smells in Disney were a bit much for me 8 months post op. aND SOME OF THE SNACKS WERE JUST TOO TEMPTING AND WOULD HAVE SENT ME DUMPING INTO POOS ARMS OR ALL OVER EYORRE OR TIGGER!. The cards will be especially good if you want to do one of theose " Theme " meals which cost a fortune anyhow... Disney is just not the greatest place for a newer post op... it is a great place WAY AFTER you have lost loads of weight and can celebrate your size and go on all the rides, hopefully not care bout the food, and not be afraid of your pouch busting open. Shwe should have a " plan " of eating and NOT try to wing it IMO!!! ;)Adria Eating @ Disney World > Has anyone been to Disney World when they were only four or five months out from surgery? Guest guest
Its a card that some surgeons or teams have, signed bty them..usually with their LOGO and your picture, states that you have had a gastric bypass and therefore would the restaurant please allow you to select from and be charged for the childrens portion. This works well for buffets, but I dont go to buffets very often. If you look at most childrens selection/portions in typical resturants...somehow hotdogs and beans or fish sticks and deep fried onion rings or PB &J with tater tots on the side usually dont do it for me anyhow, I can honestly say, I hardly use mine, unless @ a buffet,. Ivr gotten real good at doggie bagging at even @ the places with the most incredible ambiance. Works well for me, wonderful lunch or dinner the next day. Even sushi or sahimi, just freeze it overnight, its fine. :)aDria Eating @ Disney World > > > > Has anyone been to Disney World when they were only four or five months > out from surgery? Guest guest
I went to Disney at 8 weeks out and have been back 5 or 6 times since then (I'm 18 months out of surgery now). I have never had any trouble eating there, every single restaurant has been very accommodating. At some, I just explained the situation, at others I showed the card (this was generally at the ones in Epcot, where language was an issue). No one asked me to eat off the children's menu, they all either made half portions of a regular meal, made a special meal for me with what I wanted, or gave me the children's price at a buffet. The best place was Morocco (in Epcot). I gave the waiter the card and he brought it back to the manager, then came out and asked what I'd like. I explained that I wanted lamb and asked if he could he make a half portion, but that I couldn't eat rice so could they substitute something else. He said something that I didn't understand and I figured I'd just be happy with whatever they brought out. Well, to my surprise, they brought out a plate (decorated beautifully, like the regular meals) with 2 slices of lamb (they're thin slices of lamb that are cooked in a sort of broth, sort of like pot roast, but with lamb), a small pile of couscous, and some delicious veggies. It was one of the best meals that I've EVER had in DisneyWorld. The manager even came out to see if everything was okay and was concerned because I didn't eat everything (it was still too much food). I explained what they card meant and then he understood - and wanted to see my pictures. lol. And they only charged me $2.50 for a side of couscous. Other places that were great were the restaurants in Mexico & Canada and all the buffets (every single one gave me the children's price without any problem). The buffets are actually great because you can take small portions of different things - and the food is always delicious. One day we took a " behind the scenes " tour (incredible if you're there without kids) and we went to Mama Melrose's for lunch. It was included in the price of the tour and they just kept bringing out different foods for us to try and they'd bring out more of whatever we wanted. They saw that I wasn't eating much and asked if they could bring me something else! I explained that I had eaten more than enough and why I wasn't eating a lot and when it was time for dessert (which turned out to be incredible looking cakes and pastries and stuff), they brought out a plate of fresh fruit just for me. I had no problem at all finding things that weren't fried or greasy, but weren't plain steamed veggies either. In the Magic Kingdom it's a little bit more difficult because most of the restaurants there are more of a " fast food " type, but I usually get a grilled chicken sandwich, give the bread and 1/2 the chicken to one of my kids, and eat the other half of the chicken with raw veggies from the " dressings " bar. I always make sure to keep protein with me - one that I can just shake up in a bottle of water - and I also carry at least 4 bottles of water because the bottled water there is EXPENSIVE!! I have kids and a stroller though, so having all the water isn't difficult. You can buy a Brita water bottle which has a filter in it and just keep filling it in the water fountains. I've seen lots of people doing that. I also kept snacks with me - cheese cubes, raw veggies, peanuts, etc. - that I could eat instead of giving in to the things there, like the cinnamon & sugar crusted pecans (my favorite!). They sell s/f chocolate if you really want a " treat " but don't want to dump.\ Sorry to go on so long, but those of you that know me know that I am a Disney addict (I'm moving from New York to 1 hour from DisneyWorld at the end of this month). I would recommend DisneyWorld to anyone post-op - and if you're going there, tell me and I'll meet you!! I can always find an excuse to go there. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com http://www.5dollarhosting.com http://www.5dollarhosting.com/> (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
I went six months out of surgery. The serving kids know nothing about the surgery and there was sugar in everything. I dumped all the time. I ended up buying a bottle of water and refiling it all day long each day. At the big dinners, I just ate a little and paid the hefty disney price. But let us know if they do offer kids prices for us, I plan to go again! JJ LAP RNY, 5/8/00 Navy Dr. Spencer.
Guest guest
I just got back from Disney. The salads with chicke are fantastic. They don't care if you order children's portions. I was never asked any questions. We went to Wolfgang Pucks and I had rotisserie chicken with salad. No problem substituting for any sides. For breakfasts at the resort, I would get the large one and split it with my 10 yr old. She loved the french toast, sausage and hash browns. I ate the scrambled eggs and bacon (If it was well done) and the 5 yr old would eat the biscuit... They are very very accomodating and all you need to do is ask. Guest guest
Well now to sum it up it sound lie everyone id differnt... so if you are a dumper be carefuul, if you still have weight to ;lose ...be careful, if you have unlimited appetite... be careful... if you are going to be mainly in the MAGI KIGDOM WHICH I WS<<< BE EXTREMLY CAREFUL AND BRING YOUR OWN FOOD!!! If you can be flexible, can eat anything, and have will power, unlimited trust, unlimited money, faith in yorself, and a sense of humor just remeber to bring some prtei bars, a few snacks and plenty of cold water in bottles ansad a place to keep them cold and trnansport them. Some trail mix ansd fruit woiuld hurt either IMO, nor some little yogurts of whtever flots your own boats, apples, Fla oranges, PB and J, Pepperidge Farm fishies. Ive been there 2 x since surgey and IUd never go back without a 24 pack of bottled 16 ounce waters, in pop tops with an insulated strap holder, a room with a fridge and freezer to frrze a bottle each nigh before...a can of protein powder for the AM road, a nice big bag of Fla oranges or grapefruits and a Tuperware tinggy to carry some in, some high pro trail mix, or some nuts and seeds, And maybe something lie some rice cakes and some chedar cheese ofr some such thing just for a protein snack or the yogurt with something, cause food is just SOO BIG THERE, and Im just so little now. I agree the buffets are nice, and fun, but for me to spend $50!!! to hang out with POO, Tiigger and Eyorre, lie I said, I almost landed in POOS arms with some Key lime pie., bu tinsted I just grazed Tiggers back while my son just looked on in utter disbelief. while my 4 year old grand son was shouting " Watch out Gamma, dont tep on E-oes tail cause he will tart to tye.
