I am now going to a pain management dr. Supposedly pain mgmt.

First he gave me darvocet and lidoderm lidocaine patches. When I used

the medication and the patches I had slight reduction in the burning

pain in my shoulder but still had strong throbbing pain and pain in my

hips while walking (the really sharp stabbing kind). So they changed

me to Lorcet and gave me the stronger lidocaine cream to rub on any

affected area. As I sit here, my shoulder hurts nearly too much to

move it and my entire left arm aches like a toothache. My feet and

ankles are aching and tender and my hips are both bad. And this is

with the medication. I am home most of the time by myself with the

children and don't always have anyone to put the cream on my

shoulderblade area.

Friends and family have all said how they've had things like Lorcet

for root canals or after surgery and that it keeps them in a fog and

makes them sleep and they don't feel a thing. Is it unreasonable to

hope for some kind of relief? I stay active and I follow physician

directions to a T but I am really not getting that much relief. Still

don't get to sleep through the night and it's not because of my

children! I trie to explain to my mother about having to get up off

the bed, stand up, get back in bed instead of just rolling over. Or

having to pull myself by grabbing the headboard in order to change

positions.

The dr wanted to do some injections but said that my insurance

requires a longer sort of trial period to rule out other methods of

treatment.

And of course, I haven't been seeing him long enough.

Don't mean for this to sound whiny. I am just frustrated that I am

not feeling noticeably better. Thanks for listening, everyone.

Well. It sounds like I could have written your letter. Except for the meds you

got.

My pain dr put me on methadone. I only get 10 mg a day. .25mg four times a

day.

It's not working. I keep taking other things, like naproxen. I have taken some

tylenol codeine as well. I'm not suppose to take it, but I don't see my pain dr

again for a couple weeks. What am I suppose to do? Lay here in pain? I don't

think so!

I am at home with my kids too.

I have all our dr appts, pt appts, and all the other stuff moms have to do. I

just can't function without the meds.

I sleep all the time. At night, my husband says I moan every time I move. It's

almost agony trying to change positions.

So, I need something else too. I'm doing my pt 3 times a week. I try to do my

excercises at home. I do my relaxation tecniques I'm learning at my " mind/body "

class. So, I'm doing everything I'm suppose to be doing.

I even started taking my vitamins again, and my ester C.

I bought a clematis the other day to plant in front of the house to grow on the

porch railing. I have meant to get that planted now for 3 days. I just can't

even do it.

I planted about 10 daffodil bulbs in an oak barrell last fall, and I was in more

pain just from doing that.

Just little things, and I can't even do them.

So I, like you, ask " is it unreasonable to hope for some kind of relief? "

Hugs,
