I stubbornly have not given up yet the idea of returning to work. In my situation, the absence of work throws an entire layer into to this whole RSD mess. I personally need to work....not so much for financial reasons although those are very real, but for emotional reasons. After having my entire life revolve around work, the days are just too damned empty without it and leave a vacuum in my existence. I think we each have to find what works and what does not work for us. Please know that I will pray for grandmother and I ask that you include me too in your own prayers. Barbara

Barbara,

I will pray that you will be able to return to work, is part-time an option for you? I was just wondering, because I am sure you know what happened to me, when my doctor said I might be able to go back part time, but my work said that there was no part time position and they were not willing to try and make one. I know how important your jobis for you. I am going to be watching my granddaughter for my daughter and son-in-law. They were paying something like 300 dollars a month. They insist on paying me at least $100 and providing all her food, I told them I am doing this for 2 reasons, The first is to help them have more money so that they can pay off some bills and then they will be able to have their second sooner and the second is the fact that I am in a lot of pain whether she is here or not, so I might as well have her here to distract me.

She is usually very easy to watch she stays right around me in the living room so I can sit with my legs up. She also can entertain herself a lot, she is so cute she will be playing and then she will come over and say hug Nana so I hug her and off to play she goes.

I agree with you that we each must find out what works for us and what doesn't.

Love,

Lin

Lin - When I first start back I will be able to work part-time and gradually build up my hours. The docs are saying that when I finally can return, I would need to start with two or three days a week for four hours. Given how long I have been on leave, my agency would have to honor that. If, however, I found that I was unable to move back up to ful-time, I would need to leave the agency and go somewhere else and work fee-for-service rather than salaried.

The people I work withe have been great so far an more than fair. They even gave me a raise while I was out and made it retroactive to this past July. They will hold my job for a total of six months and have been clear that they will do everything possible to accommodate my needs. Realistically, though, they have to treat me as they would any other employee even though I've worked there for over fifteen years.

It's been up and down lately. I was encouraged by how I responded (no side effects)to the first patch of Duragesic but when they had me add another 50mg patch, I ended up getting sick again. Today I was supposed to try put on a third patch but no way after being up sick all last night. So it's back to one patch for me. I see the doc on Wed morning and I'm going to propose that we quit this fast dancing business and move at a rate that my body can tolerate. Thanks for your concern. I'm glad that you've been able to find ways of pitching in and helping with your grand-daughter. It sure helps to feel needed and what a fun way of "working." Barbara wrote:
