Update on the Big Sis / ankle replacement

Thanks to the many who have sent me emails directly. So much help!!! As the old-timers in the group might recall, in addition to having RSD, the Big Sis also has Hepatitis C (HCV). After a very difficult time through treatment, she was able to complete the course and came in with a home run: Undetectable (which means the HCV has gone into remission). The trick, of course, is always keeping it there!!! Without weekly Procrit, she never would have stood the course. Much to be said for that. And I am SO proud of her for hanging in there with the Pegasys treatment!!!

The next -- and ugliest -- hurdle now is she is scheduled for ankle replacement the week after Christmas. Pretty scary, huh? The surgery in and of itself is scary enough, but then we have to worry about the RSD not finding out about it! Tricky to just sneak around and perform a surgery that serious without waking the RSD Monster! The options without the replacement aren't too good. Possible amputation within a year. And that just ain't going to happen. And I'm not even going to try to address the congestive heart failure (due to RSD) and major surgery issue. I just can't go there.

Of course we appreciate any thoughts and prayers that things will go okay.

Best wishes to all for the holiday season.

- Such an incredible mix of good and bad news. I'll keep your sister in my thoughts (as well as you !) and hope that all goes well. BarbaraElusive704@... wrote:
