Guest guest
Hi, I am extremely alarmed to read about your helmet experience. Multiple sores as you are describing are unacceptable and not part of normal band or helmet therapy no matter which brand you are using. Rarely a persistant red area will go undetected and develop into a skin breakdown before an adjustment is made to the helmet interior. This is a first for me to hear of " foul smelling sores. " Have you already taken the helmet off of your baby? It is my understand that when there is a skin breakdown under the helmet, the helmet should be removed until it heals. Was your baby recasted for the second band when it was determined that the first helmet was sized improperly? How much time passed between casting and fitting for the second helmet? Regardless of what happened, the fact that you have suffered an improperly sized helmet, and a multiple sore-causing helmet is quite disheartening. These are symptoms of an improper fit, which, at best, might not correct the deformity, and, at worst, might actually make the deformity worse! What does your ortho say about the sores your baby is having, and what is the current treatment game plan? We have had other members switch band providers after an unhappy experience with a former provider, unfortunately. I understand how your insurance won't cover another brand, but perhaps a case could be made that the covered provider is unable to provide corrective treatment. Do you have documentation of the first, improperly sized band, and the sores on your baby's head from the current band? It might behoove you to gather up this info and take a few photos. Others in your uncommon situation who decided to pursue another product have successfully petitioned to get their money refunded, or approval for a different brand of band. There are avenues for formal complaint if you feel you have not received proper customer care despite giving the ortho ample opportunity to rectify the situation. I wish I could be of more help! We just had a new group member post yesterday asking if anyone had used the Lerman and Son's helmet.
